COME HOME — The Father Is Waiting | Luke 15:11–32

We often call Luke 15:11–32 the story of The Prodigal Son. But what if Jesus' story is ultimately revealing something even greater — the heart of the Father?

One son openly walks away. Another remains at home but struggles to understand his father's grace. And standing at the centre of them both is a father whose love challenges our assumptions about God.

In this Father's Day message from Andrews Farm Community Church, we explore the journey of the younger son through rebellion, repentance and rejoicing, and the astonishing grace he encounters when he finally comes home.

The message also asks a deeply personal question raised in the presentation through Henri Nouwen's reflections: Why do we keep searching elsewhere for the unconditional love that is found at home with the Father?

Whether you identify with the younger son who wandered away, the older son who stayed but became resentful, or simply know what it is to feel far from God, Jesus' story carries an invitation:

Come home. The Father is waiting.

IN THE NAME OF JESUS: When Prayer Becomes Mission
What happens when the church stops rushing ahead with its own plans, slows down and listens to what the Holy Spirit is saying?

In Acts, prayer was not simply preparation for mission—prayer was at the very heart of mission. The believers prayed, the Holy Spirit spoke, ordinary people obeyed and the good news of Jesus moved from homes and neighbourhoods to cities and nations.

In this Missions Month message, we explore how prayer shaped the early church, how a praying woman helped set in motion the story that became Operation Mobilisation, and how simple acts of obedience, forgiveness, kindness and availability can still open doors for Jesus today.

God is already at work around us. The question is: have we noticed—and are we available?

Not everyone can go everywhere, but every follower of Jesus can pray. Every one of us can listen. Every one of us can notice someone, bless someone and take the next step of faith and love.

This week’s challenge is simple:

Choose one passage from Acts and ask Jesus what He wants to say to you.

Find one person and pray together.

Choose one person, street or place—and intentionally be present there as a blessing.

You do not need a platform, a title or perfect circumstances. Whether you have beautiful feet or beautiful wheels, Jesus can use you.

Jesus is Lord.
Jesus is here.
Jesus is good news.

What is Jesus showing you—and what is your next step?

OPEN OUR EYES: JOINING WHAT GOD IS ALREADY DOING

What if mission is not about starting something new, but opening our eyes to see where God is already at work?

Drawing from Acts 13:1–12, Ps Wendy reminds us that the Holy Spirit is already moving—in our neighbourhoods, workplaces, schools, shops and everyday encounters. Our invitation is to recognise His activity and courageously join Him.

Whether through praying, giving, serving, sending or simply showing someone the love of Jesus, every believer has a part to play in God’s mission.

Lord, open our eyes to see where You are working, and show us what we can do next.

SENT TO SERVE: TOGETHER FOR THE MISSION OF GOD

What can we learn from Barnabas and Saul about serving Jesus today?

This week's message takes us back to Acts 13, where the church prayed, the Holy Spirit spoke, and Barnabas and Saul were set apart and sent out for God's work.

Their journey was not easy. They encountered opposition, persecution and hardship, yet they continued to serve faithfully.

The message gives us two important challenges:

🙏 Be willing to follow Jesus whatever the cost.
We are called to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him.

🤝 Serve, work and pray together.
God never intended His mission to be carried by one person alone. The church prayed together, served together and sent people out together.

Not everyone can travel across the world as a missionary. But all of us can pray. All of us can encourage. All of us can serve. And all of us can play a part in helping others discover Jesus.

As we were reminded in the message: prayer has power.

May God help us to pray with one heart and work together for His mission.

🔥 CALLED AND SENT: WHAT IS GOD ASKING OF YOU?

The early church did not treat mission as an occasional program. Mission was part of its identity.

In Acts 13:1–12, while the believers in Antioch were worshipping, fasting and listening, the Holy Spirit said:

“Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

They prayed, laid hands on them and sent them out.

That same challenge reaches us today.

What work is God calling you to?
Who has He placed around you?
Where might He be asking you to go, serve, speak or take a courageous step of faith?

Jesus declared in Acts 1:8 that His followers would be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth. Mission begins where we are—but it does not end there.

This message challenges us not to settle for comfortable Christianity or remain safely within the sound of the church bell. The world needs the hope of Jesus, and every follower of Christ has a part to play.

Watch this week’s message and ask honestly:

Am I listening to the Holy Spirit? Am I available? Am I willing to be called and sent?

Let’s not lose the fire. Let’s live on mission—locally and globally.
