What a blessing that Jesus even on his death he cared for his mother, wishing all mum's a wonderful day.

John 19:25-27 NIV
[25] Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. [26] When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” [27] and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.

Swordplay – Are you a swashbuckler or a fencer

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
I have to say that if I am to be pierced by a sword at any time I would rather it be a double-edged blade.
The advantage is that having a keen edge on both sides reduces the amount of bruising pressure and risk of tearing and that the wound will heal quicker. And isn’t that typical of how God works – sure He needs to pierce and cut out those parts of us that displease Him but He doesn’t want to cause unnecessary pain.

And furthermore He hasn’t limited use of the sword to just Him but has equipped each of us.
Ephesians 6:17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

But how should we use the sword? Sure we have seen the swashbuckling movies where the hero leaps into the fray swinging, chopping and parrying, but it is fencing that keeps the sport alive – looking for the weakness and hitting it with the point.

When we equip ourselves with the sword of the Spirit we need to be mindful how we use it and here are some ways in can be done.
• The Block – a defensive manoeuvre that fends off the attacks of the enemy.
• The Thrust – identify the weakness and point it out.
• The Swing – not a favourite in this context but too often used – a broad stroke that doesn’t care what else is hit as the sword cleaves a way
• The Dub – my favourite – taking the Sword of the Spirit and using it to glorify someone.

When you equip yourself with the Sword of the Spirit be mindful on how you use it. It has our Makers mark on it and the way you use it reflects on Him. Do you want to bring Him glory and show Him to be more concerned with saving souls or are you just going to cleave and club away ruining lives in your quest to deliver the Word of God. Think carefully on how you use the scriptures when talking to someone, help them to cut out the sin from their life but leave them intact – God has made each of us for a purpose and it is not up to you or I to reshape the people we meet by careless and cavalier chopping with our cutlass.

Matthew 10:34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.”
