The Anglican Communion Office invites prayer for the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, following the latest Ebola outbreak.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. Confirmed and suspected cases have been reported in Ituri Province in north-eastern DRC, with confirmed cases also reported in Kampala, Uganda.

The Most Revd Georges Titre Ande, Archbishop of Congo and Bishop of Aru, has spoken of the deep suffering faced by communities in eastern DRC, saying: ‘The rhythm of life for the population is marked by suffering upon suffering and misfortune upon misfortune.’

Archbishop Ande has urged people to combine ‘prayers with practical action’ as efforts continue to contain the outbreak.

Let us pray for all who are sick, grieving or afraid, and for health workers, local responders and community leaders working to protect lives.

Let us also pray for peace in eastern DRC, for the Province de L’Eglise Anglicane Du Congo and for the churches in the Diocese of Goma to continue to be beacons of hope.

In previous Ebola outbreaks in DRC, Anglican churches have helped to share accurate health information, challenge misinformation and encourage communities to follow public health guidance.

A resource called 'Faith in Time of Ebola', developed in 2020 during a previous outbreak in DRC, has now been reshared with bishops and church leaders in the region. Available in French, Swahili and English, it is designed to support churches as they play their part in controlling an outbreak.

Anglican leaders across Oceania are calling on churches worldwide to stand with Pacific Island nations on the frontlines of climate change.

Following the 7th Anglican Oceania Fono, held in Vanuatu under the theme 'One God, One Ocean, One People', Primates and General Secretaries have issued a powerful statement urging national churches to advocate with their governments on behalf of those most impacted by climate crisis.

The statement backs Vanuatu's push for 'polluter pays' accountability — reinforcing the landmark International Court of Justice ruling from July 2025, which found that wealthy, high-polluting nations must take financial responsibility for the climate damage they cause, rather than leaving vulnerable island nations to bear the cost alone.

The statement urges churches to call on their governments to honour their commitments under the Paris Agreement — including providing funding to help poorer nations cope with and adapt to climate change.

The Statement represents leaders from the Anglican Church in Australia, the Anglican Church of Melanesia, the Anglican Church of Papua New Guinea, and the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia.
