The Legacy of Faith exhibition was privileged to be part of South Pacific for Christ in Brisbane, where a handwritten Bible created by 1700 young people in 2013 sparked memories and meaningful reunions.

Read the story of this remarkable Bible and the people who helped create it.

A handwritten World Changer Bible created by young people at a South Pacific Division (SPD) youth congress 13 years ago became an unexpected point of reconnection for some attendees at the recent South Pacific for Christ launch in Brisbane.

Dedicated on June 6, 1914, this church on Aitutaki became one of the earliest permanent symbols of the Seventh-day Adventist mission in the Cook Islands.

The Adventist message first arrived in the Cook Islands in 1891 aboard the Pitcairn, with missionaries travelling across the islands sharing the gospel through medical work, education, literature ministry, and personal outreach. Despite strong opposition in the early years, local believers remained faithful, helping establish churches throughout the Cook Islands.

This historic photo captures an important chapter in Adventist heritage; a reminder of the faith, sacrifice, and mission spirit that helped shape the Seventh-day Adventist Church across the Pacific.

Kelvin Dickins, on behalf of his family, donated his father Kelvin Dickin's Missionary Diary to the Adventist Heritage Centre. This diary gives us a glimpse into Adventist history on the island of Mussau from 1950-1955.

This photo captures the early days of Sydney Adventist Hospital, originally known as the Sydney Sanitarium. Opened in 1903 by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the institution was founded to promote whole person health, caring for body, mind, and spirit.

Beginning as a small health retreat in Wahroonga, it grew steadily as its approach to medical care gained recognition in the community.

Today the hospital continues that legacy, serving thousands each year while remaining connected to its original mission of compassionate, faith inspired healthcare. Pictured is the hospital in its earliest years, shortly after opening in 1903.

This 1949 photograph captures a moment in the story of Adventist education in the Kingdom of Tonga. From the arrival of missionaries in 1895, schools quickly became central to the Church’s mission, beginning with small classrooms beside family homes in Nukuʻalofa, and growing into thriving centres of learning.

Education has long shaped the work of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Tonga, nurturing faith, leadership, and service across generations. Many early church members were former students, evidence of the lasting impact of these humble beginnings.

Preserving photographs like this helps us honour the legacy of those who built foundations that continue to bless the islands today.
