~ Sermon 30/08/26 ~
Peter Sharp - 2 Peter 3:3-13

When Peter wrote his second letter, he was forced to address people who doubted the promise of Jesus that He would return. Peter reminds the believer not to entertain doubts because of timing. God doesn’t work on a human time frame, and He made no promise as to when the return would happen, except that the gospel would be proclaimed throughout the whole world before the end would come. So while we wait for His inevitable return, even if people scoff at us for waiting, lets not be found sleeping, but dressed in the righteousness of Jesus, proclaiming Him and warning everyone that He will return to judge the living and the dead.

The Gospel According to Isaiah - Isaiah 37:30-38

The promise for Judah was the provision of life (Isaiah 37:30–31), so that they could be secure and fruitful for the name of God, going out from Jerusalem into the world to bear fruit, with God’s zeal achieving it (v. 32). God has given us new life, secured us from our enemy, made us safe in heaven in Jesus, and promised to supply our needs (Philippians 4:19) until the day He brings us home. What more secure promise could we have than that?

In addition to our regular Sunday services, home groups and Grace Community Youth, we’ll be celebrating our fathers on Father’s Day, all the ladies are invited to our Spring Soirée (afternoon tea and meander through the wildflowers 🌸🌳☕️🧺) at Kings Park, we have our much-loved Friday Night Praise 🙌🏼🎶 (all welcome!) and a time of prayer for our church, our community and the world 🙏🏼. We will also be filling shoeboxes all month for Operation Christmas Child Australia & New Zealand. 🎄🎁

The Gospel According to Isaiah - Isaiah 37:21-29

We have the doctrines of God’s absolute sovereignty and man’s responsibility. God decrees, plans and purposes, and brings His plans into reality, and yet people are responsible for their actions and responses. When it comes to prayer, we struggle to see how they fit together. If God is sovereign and works all things according to His plans and purposes, what’s the point of praying? He already has everything worked out. On the flipside, if God were not absolutely sovereign, then how could we trust Him to be able to make decrees and then bring them to pass? If God weren’t sovereign, then there wouldn’t really be a reason to pray to Him, because He couldn’t make it happen.

The Gospel According to Isaiah - Isaiah 37:9-20

The enemy of God’s people always tries to undermine trust in God (9-13). The right way to overcome fear and the temptations of the enemy is to take it to God (14-15). The way of faith and the prayer of faith first and foremost sees God for who He truly is (16). The prayer of faith is most concerned with the glory of God (17-20). Jesus is the king who lived, died and rose again for the glory of God, and He intercedes for us that we might glorify God and one day be with Him in glory.
