We are delighted with the wonderful news that Peter Griffin has been appointed as the substantive Principal of St Vincent’s Primary School. We are sincerely grateful for the leadership and continuity he has provided, and the way he has embraced the spirit and identity of St Vincent’s. It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Dr Sally Towns, former Executive Director of Brisbane Catholic Education, died peacefully yesterday surrounded by her family.

This news will come as a great shock and sorrow to many across our Archdiocese and the wider Catholic education community. Sally was a woman of deep faith, extraordinary dedication and immense courage. Over more than thirty years of service to Catholic education, including the last four years as Executive Director of Brisbane Catholic Education, Sally devoted her life to the formation, care and education of young people.

Sally’s death is a profound loss for all who knew her. At this difficult time, I ask that you join me in holding Sally's family, friends and colleagues in our prayers. We also remember the many staff and school communities who worked closely with Sally and who will feel this loss deeply.

As people of faith, we entrust Sally to the loving mercy of God, whom she served so faithfully throughout her life.

May Sally rest in the peace of Christ.

Brisbane Catholic Education celebrates the life and service of Executive Director, Dr Sally Towns, who passed away following a courageous battle with cancer.

Across more than 30 years in Catholic education, Dr Towns served with faith, warmth and extraordinary dedication. During her four years as Executive Director of BCE, Sally led our 146 schools with vision, warmth and a steadfast commitment to faith-filled, inclusive and high-quality education for every student.

She leaves a remarkable legacy and was an inspiration to all who worked alongside her. We will remember her leadership with gratitude for the hope she brought, the standards she set, and the lives she shaped through Catholic education.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Sally’s family and we thank God for her life of service. May she rest in peace.
