Can we hear directly from God? Or do we need to rely on church authorities?
Jesus said to Peter, 'I'm really impressed, because you've been listening directly to God, not just repeating ideas from other people. So I'm going to give you access to the new society I'm creating. You'll have the authority to judge what is good and what is bad - and what you decide will be respected by God.'
There is often disagreement among Christians about what this means for the church: Should we follow everything Peter (and all the popes) have said? Or should we all be trying to listen directly to God for direction?
The good news is that we CAN connect with God directly. AND we get a fuller picture of what God is saying if we are in touch with the wider church (including Peter and the popes). Staying in touch with the church across time and place helps to stop us from being overtaken by our own biases and preferences.
If you'd like to join us as we gather for church, you're most welcome, even if you're just passing through. We meet at 10am Sundays at 1939 Dandenong Road, Clayton. There is always morning tea afterwards at about 11am.

Sometimes it can be hard to empathise with others. Our neighbour might be celebrating, but we’re not so excited. Someone might be going through grief, but we don’t feel like we can to enter into that too. Music can help us to feel what our neighbours are feeling. It can help us to feel as one body. When we dance, it can help us to move together as one body. When we sing it can help us to breathe together as one body. And when we praise God, it can help us to speak our faith as one body. We have music every Sunday because it helps us to sense that we are one body - Christ’s body on earth.
If you’d like to join us for church, you’re always welcome. We meet at 10am on Sundays at 1939 Dandenong Road, Clayton. We always have something to eat and drink after, to nourish the body.
