After 7 years of study and formation, Isaac Falzon will this week be ordained a Catholic Priest.

An old boy of Marist College Ashgrove, Isaac will join two of his seminarian/Deacon brothers in being ordained at the Cathedral of St Stephen, in the Archdiocese of Brisbane.

The ordinations will take place on June 29, the Feast day of Saints Peter and Paul, the traditional day for priestly ordinations.

On the eve of this major, grace-filled life event, Isaac joins Jo Hayes on the Instagram LIVE - discussing his faith journey thus far, and his call to the priesthood.

Join them - Wednesday June 28, 7pm.

Ever cottoned on too late that someone was trying to help you?

This week, one of the most famous parts of the Bible (John 3:16–18), we hear why God sent His only son - so that the world might be saved.

Jesus had every right to punish those who did Him wrong.
Instead He went *all* the way...His way.

What does that mean for us?
A challenge to close from a seminarian at our Parish years ago, Fr Josh:

The Archdiocese of Brisbane is the face of the Brisbane Catholic Church covering all of South East Queensland and led by Archbishop Mark Coleridge.

"Come Holy Spirit..." Amazing! Now what?

This week, 'the birthday of the church' (John 20:19–23), the Disciples receive the Holy Spirit, Jesus then tells them, "For those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven; for those whose sins are retained, they are retained."

A strange thing to say perhaps?

More likely a reminder that every day we have a choice to share or bask in the Holy Spirit. At Mass today, at the disciples' example, we were encouraged to do the first.

Fr Brendan reflects on the impact of the Holy Spirit that day:

Two-Minute Homily by Fr Brendan Gormley for Pentecost Sunday 2023. “The Spirit helps us to know and love Jesus and the Father; the Spirit consoles and strengthens and forgives; the Spirit helps us to keep the commandments and guides us on the path to salvation.”

Been asked to take on anything big lately?

Matthew 28:16-20 describes Jesus giving the disciples their mission, complete with a wonderful promise: "And know that I am with you always..." The first part: Go and make disciples of all nations.

Some time later...here we are.

We've all been set something big!

Fr Boni to close this week:

Two-Minute Homily by Fr Boni Buahendri SVD for the The Ascension of the Lord 2023. “We need to ask for the gift of strong faith in every difficult moment. Faith to believe with all our hearts that Christ has risen and we will rise!”

Making a new path?

This week (John 14:1-22) we hear Jesus re-assuring His disciples, despite understandable reservations, they indeed have a bright future with great things to follow.

The insecurities of others can sometimes be our heaviest burden. What then?

Two-Minute Homily by Fr Wrex Woolnough for the Fifth Sunday of Easter 2023. “To find the way, we have to work together, trusting in each others’ wisdom and keeping our eye on the final goal which is God.”

What does your instinct say?

Jesus tells 2 parables (John 10:1-10) underscoring there may be many, but He is the shepherd whom the gatekeeper admits and his sheep follow.

At some point we all face situations where things don't seem clear - perhaps we not even sure what we want! At Mass this evening we were challenged to think of Jesus as our password to a fuller life, to listen for His voice, and - when trouble hits - to seek Him out.

Dcn Russ Nelson on this Good Shepherd Sunday:

Two-Minute Homily by Dcn Russ Nelson for the Fourth Sunday of Easter 2023. “Founded on faith, enriched by a good prayer life, we need to understand what Jesus is saying and act on it.”

Undercover boss?

Jesus engages strongly in discussion while walking with two disciples (Luke 24:13–35), both unaware it's Him. Regardless they befriend Him and He rewards them with an important reminder and the joy of realising it really was Him.

How much more ground do we cover sharing peer-to-peer?
Over 18 and fancy a meal and a chat? Why not join us for a meal and a chat this Thursday 6:30pm at Hendra Parish? It's Week 1 of Alpha - if you're free, just rock up!

To close, Dn Gary Stone reminds us - in the run-up to ANZAC Day - of the service-mindedness that truly changes lives:

Two-Minute Homily by Dcn Gary Stone for the Third Sunday of Easter 2023. “May we give our lives, to offering people in the world around us, a better and more hopeful future.”

Say your best friend were troubled...would you want them to say something?

This week (John 20:19-31) we see the disciples receive the Holy Spirit, and Thomas wanting to see things for himself - then he gets does! To cap it off, we're reminded why the author wrote the story down.

At Mass this week, at Thomas' example, we were challenged three ways:
1. Start with trust - be honest with God,
2. Stay with our faith community especially through uncertainty,
3. To be optimistic that God will meet us where where are.

Fr Joseph Vu to close this week:

Two-Minute Homily by Fr Joseph Vu SVD for the Second Sunday of Easter 2023. “May the hearts of each of us, right now, be open to love God and to love others. Let us run to take refuge in God’s mercy.”

Could it really be...??

John 20:1-9 describes the moment three people discover Jesus isn't in his tomb - it's just linen cloths. That's enough for at least one - a disciple, possibly having seen and heard enough in his time with Jesus, to catch on right away.

When people's actions don't make sense to us, we'll ask, "What's going on?" or "Why are they doing that?" Often something happens - or they even tell you - then everything quickly makes sense.

How amazing that Jesus would go through all that He did for us. Happy Easter, very best wishes for the coming year.

To close, Archbishop Mark!

Two-Minute Homily by Archbishop Mark Coleridge for Easter Sunday 2023. “You and I and indeed the whole world needs a saviour, not just a wise teacher, or a miracle worker, we need a saviour and that’s what we have once Jesus rises from the dead, his scars shining like the sun.”

The Easter story: What appeals to you?

With Good Friday only a few sleeps away, the Gospel is Jesus' passion (Matthew 26:14 - 27:66). He pushes forward towards an outcome His enemies also want, even as strive to achieve it with what they think will be maximum humiliation.

The Easter story has a range of characters most of us can relate to. Fr Nev encouraged us this week to open our Bibles, read the story in a quiet moment, and identify with a few of them if we can.

Jesus somehow worked all things for good. How can we?

Anne Frawley-Mangan on this great story:

"God is passionately in love with us and instead of us needing to spill blood to get to God, we have God spilling blood to get to us." This Palm Sunday, Year A 2023, Anne Frawley-Mangan gives us a gospel reflection on the Lord's passion.

"Deeds not words" clarified the suffragettes' mission so many years ago.

In the Gospel this week (John 11:1-45) Jesus arrived with His dear friend Lazarus dead. He tells Martha, "I am the resurrection and the life." With deep emotion, He then goes on to prove it.

If we were in the crowd watching on, how many of us would have believed Him? Big claims, big scepticism! Sometimes our perspective gets a bit of a jolt though.

What Jesus promises is huge, is it all worth it?
Well... He has form.

Fr Dan Redhead digs deeper:

Homily for the 5th Sunday of Lent 2023, Year A by Fr Dan Redhead from the Archdiocese of Brisbane . "We know Jesus to be our Lord and Saviour, and that He is the key to eternal life."
