Building a Legacy | Connections by Design

We are delighted to invite our alumni and current Year 12 students to the next instalment of our Alumni Connect series – an evening of conversation, connection and professional exchange hosted at TRCB Architects.

Our host is Eamon Broderick (Class 1988), Co-Director of TRCB Architects and the architect behind more than 25 years of campus design at John XXIII College. Eamon will reflect on his career, his long relationship with the College, and the craft of designing spaces for learning. TRCB's new CBD office occupies a heritage-listed building originally designed by Sir Talbot Hobbs – a fitting venue for an evening about legacy and place.

Whether you graduated last year or decades ago, this is an opportunity to reconnect with fellow alumni, meet Principal Daniel Mahon, and share your experience with our current students.

'Always keep your humanity.'

That is Kass Keenan's advice to our community, and it is a philosophy she and her father Dr Tim Keenan have carried into humanitarian healthcare settings across the Middle East, Cambodia, Afghanistan and beyond.

The John XXIII College community mourns the passing of Eileen Farrelly, who passed away on 30 May 2026, aged 102.

Eileen served as Head of Science at Loreto Claremont for many years, and when Loreto College and St Louis School amalgamated to form John XXIII College in 1977, she became Co-ordinator of the St Louis Community – a role she held with great dedication until her retirement at the end of 1982.

In retirement, Eileen moved to the Kimberley, where she supported local artists in recording and authenticating their work. She continued to live with characteristic energy and purpose well into her centenary years – driving herself to swimming, attending two book clubs, and baking for her parish community each week.

Eileen's funeral will be held at St Thomas Catholic Church, Claremont, on Wednesday 17 June at 10.30am.

May she rest in peace.

Before the colonnades, before the chapel, before anyone set foot on campus – there was a rubbish tip.

Yes, really.

These construction photographs capture the earliest days of what would become our Mount Claremont campus. It’s fair to say the transformation has been significant.

πŸ—οΈ ️ 1975: A cleared site next to Graylands Hospital. Not exactly love at first sight.
πŸ“‹ 1981: Someone saw the potential. Negotiations began.
🚧 1985: The tip was cleared, the hard hats went on, and construction began.
πŸŽ“ 1986: On 12 May, 1,200 students arrived for the first day of school at a new campus.
πŸ›οΈ 2026: Heritage-listed campus. Playing fields where the tip once was. Forty years of memories.

Alumni Spotlight: Carnegie Hall Edition

Will Nichols (Class 2015) took to the stage of Carnegie Hall last month as principal harpist with Orchestra Victoria – one of the most storied concert halls in the world, and a stage that has long defined the heights of musical achievement.

Orchestra Victoria flew from Melbourne to New York City for a two-night engagement alongside pianist, singer, and composer Harry Connick Jr., marking his long-awaited Carnegie Hall debut. The programme spanned solo performances, big-band jazz, and the world premiere of Connick's original symphonic work, BABE: ELABORATIO: A TRIBUTE TO MY MOTHER – a piece honouring the 100th birthday of his late mother, Anita, who dreamed that one day he would perform on that stage.

Prior to the Carnegie Hall concerts, Will also performed at an intimate preview of the show hosted by the American Australian Association.
