This is an amazing true story of how Jews held captive in a a soviet gulag in Siberia managed to find a way to hear the shofar loudly and clearly on Rosh Hashanah. During the month of Elul, which we are currently in, it is traditionally a time in which we take a deep, honest inventory of our personal actions and spiritual growth over the past year.

I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine.

This verse from Song of Songs 6:3 spells out Elul, the Hebrew month before the High Holidays, when we draw especially close to G-d, our Beloved.
