Someone once said that ‘every end of one chapter is the start of another’

As we move into House Churches this Sunday, we keep running, eyes fixed on Jesus - the one who pioneers our faith and will perfect it.

We’re not shrinking back - we’re being sent out, continuing the story. And Jesus will finish what He started.

🗣️ Where do you feel most unsteady right now — and what would it look like to let Jesus’ unchanging love steady you there? - James Ryburn

📖 As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him; for He knows how we are formed, He remembers that we are dust.
- Psalm 103:13-14

😃 On Sunday James carried on our Advent Series ‘The Names of Christmas Hope’ by sharing about the eternal, unchanging, compassionate nature of our ‘Everlasting Father’, and how knowing Him brings steadiness to our uncertainty.

🗣️ “Witness, in both word and action, has to be a part of our lives. It has to be, because we’ve tasted and seen that the Lord is good.” - Boris Yu

📖  But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. - 1 Peter 2:9

😃 On Sunday Boris carried on looking at the calling of God on us as His people, from Peter’s first epistle.

🗣️ “Busyness and Comfort kills our ability to hope in Jesus and His coming again…are we alert and sober enough to remember that this world is not our home?” - Boris Yu

📖  Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you - 1 Peter 1:3-4

😃 On Sunday Boris reminded us to remember our living hope…to be aware that we’re foreigners and exiles…and not to be ‘drunk’ on comfort and busyness which kills our ability to hope in Jesus and His coming again.

As followers of Jesus, we follow Jesus’ lead…one of the ways we do this is by getting baptised in water - exercising obedience, following Christ’ example, and declaring that He’s Lord of our life. Baptism is an outward proclamation of an inward conversion...or to say it another way, an outward sign of internal salvation.

We’d love you to join us as some dear friends ‘take the plunge’ this weekend…join us for a BYO picnic at Balmoral Beach.

If you’re a christian and you’ve not been baptised, we’d love to talk…you might have questions or need more info - please reach out!

💥Our culture is not good at resting, nor is it conducive to slowness, stillness, silence, and contemplation…we’re often looking for ways to effectively rest (downloading white-noise apps, trying different forms of meditation, reading books, attending courses) or to find more balance in life. We know we need to slow down, rest, and find balance…we just don’t know how.

😴As we learn to follow Jesus’ ways, every so often as a community we pause to rest…this means there will be no ‘official gathering’ this Sunday, but rather, we’ll take time out to practice the forgotten discipline of Sabbath…a chance to ‘stop, rest, delight, and contemplate’

❤️If you’ve never intentionally tried to Sabbath, try this weekend…we’re not gathering together on Sunday, so it’s a chance to do just that, to try.

📖  13 We went on ahead to the ship and sailed for Assos, where we were going to take Paul aboard. He had made this arrangement because he was going there on foot - Acts 20:13

😃 On Sunday James spoke to us in preparation for our Sabbath Sunday (no Sunday service this long weekend, Oct 5th). He shared about Paul’s Unexpected Choice to slow down and walk while everyone else sailed on, and the Gift that Sabbath is to us…and he led us to Walk into Rest by leading us in a Lectio Divina reflection.

🗣️ “Don’t let your pursuit of honour, lead you to despise or envy people” - Boris Yu

📖  Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up - Gal 6:9

😃 On Sunday Boris carried on our new series in Galatians - Free at Last: Set Free by Grace, Kept Free by the Spirit.
He showed us how essential community is for working out this balance of wanting to do the right thing, but not having it as the basis for our salvation…he encouraged us, in love, to Bear one another’s burdens, teach and share all good things, and to sow well
