🍩 Happy Donut Day! 🍩

Did you know that National Donut Day has its roots in the work of The Salvation Army?

During World War I, a group of brave Salvation Army volunteers became known as the “Donut Lassies.” Serving near the front lines in France, these women provided spiritual care, encouragement, and a taste of home to soldiers. With limited resources and cooking equipment, they began making donuts in helmets and frying them in small huts close to the battlefields.

What started as a simple act of kindness became a powerful symbol of comfort, hope, and care during some of the darkest days of war. Thousands of soldiers remembered the warm donuts and the compassionate presence of the Donut Lassies long after they returned home.

National Donut Day was established in 1938 by The Salvation Army in America to honour these remarkable women and to support people experiencing hardship during the Great Depression.

Today, as you enjoy a donut, take a moment to remember that small acts of service can make a lasting difference. A kind word, a helping hand, or a simple gesture of care can bring hope when it’s needed most.

“Let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.” — 1 John 3:18
