35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. 36 Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful. Luke 6:35-36

COMMEMORATION OF ST. EPHRAIM THE TEACHER

Today, we commemorate one of the great Fathers and teachers of the Church, St. Ephraim (c. 306–373).

A gifted theologian, poet, and hymn writer, St. Ephraim devoted his life to defending the true faith and teaching the Gospel through hymns and writings. His words continue to inspire Christians around the world centuries after his repose.

St. Ephraim was also renowned for his compassion. During a devastating famine in Edessa, he left the solitude of his ascetic life to care for the poor and sick, personally distributing aid and serving those in need. In doing so, he showed that true faith is expressed through love, mercy, and service to others.

May we follow St. Ephraim's example, serving others with the same faith and compassion that marked his life.

25 And behold, a certain ]lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, β€œTeacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

26 He said to him, β€œWhat is written in the law? What is your reading of it?”

27 So he answered and said, β€œ β€˜You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and β€˜your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

28 And He said to him, β€œYou have answered rightly; do this and you will live.” Luke10:25-28
