Recently, members of the Wesley community participated in the Hills Relay for Life. Hills Relay is this year celebrating 25 years of creating community, building hope and raising vital funds for the Cancer Council. This year, over $300,000 was raised to fund cancer research projects and provide support for people living with cancer and their families.

Let's learn more about Communion πŸ·πŸ«“

Communion or Eucharist is the Christian practice of eating bread and drinking wine or grape juice in remembrance of Jesus Christ. It is a ritual which follows in the biblical tradition remembering Jesus’ meal with his friends before his crucifixion.

In most churches, Communion is a sacrament, which is an action described as β€˜an outward sign of inward grace’. It is an act which reminds us of all that Jesus has done for us and continues to do for us.

At Wesley, all are welcome to participate in Communion, regardless of whether or not you are baptised. You are not obliged to participate if you do not wish to.

We have a Communion service twice a month, usually on the first Sunday during 9:30am worship and as part of Rest and Reflect on the fourth Wednesday of the month.

We choose to use grape juice instead of wine in the cup, to make the sacrament of Communion accessible to people under 18 and people who abstain from alcohol for any reason, including pregnant women.

Our church also eats gluten-free bread in Communion to ensure that dietary requirements are also no barrier in taking part in this meal which plays a significant role in our worship of Christ.

The bread will be blessed and broken and the cup blessed and offered, by the person presiding over the Communion service. It will then be served to those who wish to participate.

What questions do you have about Communion?

Ask away in the comments!

Wesley will be having a Communion service this Sunday, June 7, as part of our 9:30am worship. All are welcome.

Over this past week, National Reconciliation Week has been an opportunity to recommit to be All In for Reconciliation, recognising that justice and truth-telling require all communities to come together towards learning and hope. We honour the custodianship and continuous culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. At Wesley we worship on the lands of the Bidjigal Clan of the Dharug Nation. This always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
