Let's learn more about Communion π·π«
Communion or Eucharist is the Christian practice of eating bread and drinking wine or grape juice in remembrance of Jesus Christ. It is a ritual which follows in the biblical tradition remembering Jesusβ meal with his friends before his crucifixion.
In most churches, Communion is a sacrament, which is an action described as βan outward sign of inward graceβ. It is an act which reminds us of all that Jesus has done for us and continues to do for us.
At Wesley, all are welcome to participate in Communion, regardless of whether or not you are baptised. You are not obliged to participate if you do not wish to.
We have a Communion service twice a month, usually on the first Sunday during 9:30am worship and as part of Rest and Reflect on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
We choose to use grape juice instead of wine in the cup, to make the sacrament of Communion accessible to people under 18 and people who abstain from alcohol for any reason, including pregnant women.
Our church also eats gluten-free bread in Communion to ensure that dietary requirements are also no barrier in taking part in this meal which plays a significant role in our worship of Christ.
The bread will be blessed and broken and the cup blessed and offered, by the person presiding over the Communion service. It will then be served to those who wish to participate.
