UNSW Muslim Students' Association

UNSW Muslim Students' Association The official page for the University of New South Wales Muslim Students' Association (UNSWMSA).

UNSWMSA is an organisation comprised of Muslim students on campus who seek to organise events, materials and discussion for Muslims and non-Muslims alike. It seeks to enhance the knowledge of Islam present in the campus community as well as providing an outlet for activities and events that discuss general and current issues related to Islam and Muslims. UNSWMSA, formerly known as IAFUNSW, was est

ablished in October 2012 with the constitutional aims of:

- Organising events for non-Muslim audiences that seek to distil a clearer understanding of Islam, to dispel negative stereotypes, to increase wider knowledge of Islam and to encourage a more reasoned and learned enquiry into Islam
- Arranging reading materials, information stalls and other mediums at campus which facilitate appropriate discourse
- Organising events for Muslim students on campus in order to promote the pursuit of knowledge regarding Islam, thereby encouraging an atmosphere of engagement between Muslim and non-Muslim students on campus
- Facilitating discourse between Muslim students and the wider community on issues affecting the Muslims locally and globally
- Fostering, at all times, an environment of critical thinking, reasoned discussion and respectful discourse on campus both between Muslims and non-Muslims as well as among Muslim students

UNSWMSA had its application for affiliation with ARC approved in December 2012 and has been working hard to best deliver events and initiatives to fulfil its objectives. The need for UNSWMSA is great with the large Muslim population on campus along with a general lack of understanding about Islam throughout the wider campus. UNSWMSA encourages everyone, Muslims and Non-Muslims alike, to attend our events on a regular basis with a wide variety of regular events providing something for everyone. UNSWMSA acknowledges the Islamic Society of the University of New South Wales (ISOC UNSW) as the premier organisation representing Muslim students, providing services such as prayer facilities, Friday prayers, charity fundraisers and many other events. UNSWMSA innately has different objectives to ISOC UNSW and hence different focuses in events, though we openly invite co-operation and collaboration.

Alhamdulillah, what an incredible workshop!

Shaykha Umm Jamaal ud-Din took us through some of the most common misconceptions surrounding women in Islam, unpacking them with clarity, depth and evidence straight from the Qur’an and Sunnah.

It was a reminder of how powerful it is to speak with knowledge instead of assumption and how these conversations, when approached with patience and clarity, can genuinely shift the way people see our deen.

Jazakumullahu khayran to everyone who came out, and to Shaykha Umm Jamaal ud-Din for sharing her wisdom with us. 25+ years of knowledge condensed into two powerful session.

Islamic Awareness Week ‼️ (22-25th June)

The world we live in is rampant with corruption and satanism. Countries are being scorched with no regard for human life. World leaders choose to be silent and complicit, whilst also engaging in the most demonic crimes against God. Everywhere we look, society falls apart... and in light of this, perhaps some may think to themselves—does Justice exist? ⚖️

And what can we do about it? 🤔

Come down to our events throughout the entire week from Monday to Thursday to learn, interact and engage in meaningful discourse and activities that will enlighten you with a greater sense of understanding as to what justice truly is! ⭐

✨ GRAND IFTAR RECAP [repost] ✨

Alhamdulillah, what a special and uplifting night it was! 🌙

This year’s Grand Iftar was a beautiful reminder of the power of community. The evening began with a heartfelt Qur’an recitation 🕋 and we gathered together for Maghrib prayer 🧎‍♂️, sharing a moment of reflection and gratitude during this blessed month.

After breaking our fast, everyone enjoyed a delicious Mehfil Biryani feast 🍚 followed by amazing desserts provided by Behind The Sweets 🍰 ,while catching up, meeting new faces, and celebrating the spirit of Ramadan together.

The generosity shown throughout the evening was truly inspiring. An incredible ~$26000 was raised through the auction alone to support those affected in Sudan. May Allah reward every single person who contributed.

A sincere thank you to our generous sponsors, Penny Appeal Australia, MCCA, Tax Factor, and ISRA Australia, for helping make this event possible.

And of course, JazakAllah khair to everyone who attended, donated, and volunteered. May Allah accept all our efforts and continue to unite our community in goodness. 🤍✨
