Today, the Church in Australia celebrates the Feast of Mary Help of Christians — Patroness of Australia and of the Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn.

Under this title, we turn to Mary as a mother who walks with us in times of uncertainty, challenge and hope. She reminds us to stay close to Jesus, to listen deeply, and to trust that God continues to guide His people even in difficult moments.

As Catholics across our Archdiocese gather in parishes, schools and communities today, we give thanks for Mary’s faithful witness and ask for her prayers for our families, our nation, and our local Church.

May Mary Help of Christians continue to strengthen us to be people of encounter, discipleship and mission.

Mary Help of Christians, pray for us

More than 50 clergy from across the Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn gathered this week at Galong Retreat Centre for the annual Clergy Assembly — a time of prayer, reflection, conversation and fraternity.

During the week, clergy explored topics including Generative AI, clergy wellbeing, the legacy of Pope Francis, Dilexit Nos, Pope Leo, and Discernment in Common through “Conversations in the Spirit”.

There were also joyful moments of community, including a Cultural Night and Jubilarian Dinner celebrating years of faithful ministry and service.

Please keep our clergy in your prayers as they continue serving our communities.

Recently, Archbishop Christopher visited Young and Cootamundra to officially welcome their new parish priests - Fr Rofin Raphael IVDei (Young, Grenfell, Boorowa) and Fr Xavier Francis IVDei (Cootamundra, Murrumburrah, Jugiong).

Parishioners gathered with warm welcomes to support their new priests as they start this next chapter. Across the Archdiocese, several priests have begun new appointments, continuing their faithful service in different communities.

Please pray for all our priests starting new roles and for the communities they now serve. 🙏
