요나는 하나님의 말씀을 들었지만
순종보다 자신의 생각을 선택했습니다.
하나님은 니느웨로 가라고 하셨지만,
요나는 “그러나”를 말하며 다시스로 향했습니다.
우리 삶에도 “그러나”가 참 많았음을
돌아보게 됩니다.
하나님의 말씀이 분명해도,
“그러나 힘듭니다.”
“그러나 이해되지 않습니다.”
“그러나 손해 보는 것 같습니다.”
“그러나 아직 준비되지 않았습니다.”
하며 순종보다 생각과 감정을 앞세울 때가 많았습니다.
요나의 길은 처음에는 잘 되는 것처럼 보였습니다.
마침 배가 있었고,
마침 자리가 있었고,
마침 모든 것이 순조롭게 흘러갔습니다.
하지만 형통은 일이 내 뜻대로 되는 것이 아니라,
하나님의 뜻 안에서 가는 것임을 다시 배우게 됩니다.
때로는 하나님을 떠나는 길도 편해 보일 수 있고,
불순종의 길도 합리적으로 보일 수 있습니다.
그러나 하나님은 자기 백성을 포기하지 않으십니다.
바람을 움직이시고,
바다를 움직이시고,
큰 물고기까지 사용하셔서라도
우리를 다시 하나님께로 돌이키게 하십니다.
그 징계마저도 버리심이 아니라 사랑임을 봅니다.
오늘도 제 삶에 “그러나”가 아니라
“그러므로”가 있기를 기도합니다.
우리 생각과 다를지라도,
우리 감정이 따라오지 않을지라도,
그 말씀이 하나님의 말씀이기에,
그러므로 순종하고,
그러므로 돌아가고,
그러므로 예배합니다.
주님의 얼굴을 피하는 삶이 아니라,
주님의 얼굴을 구하는 삶을 살게 하소서.
예수 그리스도의 이름으로 기도드립니다.

Jonah heard the word of God, yet chose his own thoughts over obedience.
God told him to go to Nineveh, but Jonah responded with a “but” and headed toward Tarshish instead.
As we reflect on this passage, we realize how often “but” appears in our own lives.
Even when God’s Word is clear:
“But we’re tired.”
“But we don’t understand.”
“But it seems unfair.”
“But we’re not ready yet.”
Too often, we place our thoughts and feelings above obedience.
At first, Jonah’s path seemed to be going well.
There was a ship.
There was a seat.
Everything appeared to fall into place.
Yet Scripture reminds us that true prosperity is not having things go our way, but walking in God’s will.
Sometimes the path away from God can seem easier.
Sometimes disobedience can even appear reasonable.
But God does not abandon His people.
He moved the wind,
stirred the sea,
and even appointed a great fish to bring Jonah back to Himself.
Even His discipline was not rejection, but an expression of His love.
Today, we pray that our lives would be marked not by “but,” but by “therefore.”
Even when His Word challenges our thinking,
even when our feelings do not align,
because it is the Word of God,
therefore we obey.
Therefore we return.
Therefore we worship.
May we not seek to flee from the presence of the Lord,
but continually seek His face.
In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray.
