Pope Leo has said the Catholic Church will not bless same-sex marriages, and that its teaching on marriage has not changed. He explained that priests can still support and pray for LGBTQ+ Catholics, but any blessings must be separate from sacramental marriage and cannot suggest approval of unions the Church does not recognize.

His comments follow Pope Francis’s 2023 guidance, which allows limited, non-liturgical blessings as long as they do not look like a wedding or change Church teaching.

The discussion continues to highlight ongoing tensions within the Church, as leaders and faithful alike try to balance inclusion and pastoral outreach with long-standing beliefs.

⛪📜 The Vatican has issued a new doctrinal document reaffirming its traditional teaching on marriage.

Titled Una Caro (“One Flesh: In Praise of Monogamy”) and approved by Pope Leo XIV, the text defines Christian marriage as a lifelong, exclusive union between one man and one woman, described as an indissoluble bond rooted in total mutual commitment.

The document clearly rejects multi-partner relationships, stating they undermine the dignity and meaning of marriage. According to the Vatican, monogamy isn’t a cultural preference — it’s a core Christian principle.

As views on relationships continue to shift worldwide, the message from Rome is unmistakable:
In Christian doctrine, marriage remains two people, for life — no exceptions.
