THEME FOR THE MONTH: GLAD TIDINGS
TEXT: LUKE 1:19
GOOD FOR THE SOUL
Have you ever desperately awaited news that could change the course of your life? Perhaps it was a report of a loved one’s recovery, a job offer following prolonged unemployment, or a plea for mercy when judgment was deserved.
The importance of “good news” or “glad tidings” cannot be overemphasized. No wonder the Book of Proverbs 25:25 describes them as "cold water to a thirsty soul."
Conversely, bad news can crush the spirit. In 1 Samuel 4:17-18, the prophet Eli earnestly waited for good news from the battlefield. But when he heard the Ark of God was captured, he fell backward, broke his neck, and died.
Glad tidings rejuvenate the life of the hearer, much like Joseph's sudden promotion, after his divine release from prison (Genesis 41:14).
HOLY EXPECTATION
Spiritual principles govern the flow of glad tidings, beginning with holy living. Psalm 42:7 declares, "Deep calls unto deep," signaling that our spiritual depth attracts divine responses.
Glad tidings originate in heaven before they are dispatched. As the angel declared in Luke 1:19, "I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings."
Gabriel was sent to Zacharias, a man found righteous before God (Luke 1:6). To operate in this realm of favour, believers must:
Expect: Through maintaining holy anticipation for glad tidings (Proverbs 23:18).
Receive: Be found as worthy vessels upon which glad tidings can rest (2 Timothy 2:21)
Protect: Stay vigilant against the adversary’s tricks to steal our joy (1 Peter 5:8).
BEAR GLAD TIDINGS
Believers are not just consumers of blessings; we are conduits. Jesus reminded us that "It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35), which applies directly to glad tidings.
Believers are called to bear good news also as follows:
Through Good Works: We must let our salvation shine so God is glorified, following the steps of Jesus Christ, whom God anointed with the Holy Spirit and power to do good (Acts 10:38).
Through Evangelism: Fulfill the Great Commission to "Go into all the world and preach the gospel" (Mark 16:15).
Through Testimonies: We must share God’s goodness in our lives with others.
Beloved, you must always remember that holiness unlocks the portals for glad tidings.
Happy new month!
