St John the Baptist Orthodox Mission, Toowoomba

St John the Baptist Orthodox Mission, Toowoomba An Orthodox Christian Mission for the Toowoomba Region. Services every week Saturday at 5pm, and Sunday at 9am.

We are a group of Orthodox Christians who live in Toowoomba and the Darling Downs who came together in 2014 to form a new worshipping community, part of the Orthodox Church within the Diocese of Australia & New Zealand (ROCOR). In Brief:
- We place Jesus Christ first in our daily lives.
- We are firmly grounded in Scripture and the witness of the Early Church.
- We serve Orthodox Christians in T

oowoomba and surrounds with all services in English.
- We welcome all people into the historic Christian Church.
- We invite you to find your spiritual home here. We welcome you and yours to worship with us, and to learn about how the Birth, Resurrection and rising to heaven of Our Saviour can change your life as it has changed ours.

Last week's sermon has been uploaded to our YouTube channel! Here Father Erich discusses the story of the Samaritan Woman and the lessons we can take on in our journeys with Christ to grow as Orthodox Christians.

In particular, he discusses the role of the Holy Spirit and how He helps us grow closer to God. This is a particularly valuable for our catechumens as we begin this year's series of catechism lectures.

Catechism classes will be beginning this weekend on 10th May.

These lectures are traditionally held in the lead-up to baptisms, preparing our catechumans with all the essential knowledge we require. While largley designed for catechumans, anyone is welcome to join.

If you are a new visitor and would like to learn more about the Orthodox Church, this is an excellent opportunity to ask questions and engage with real in-person discussions.

Those attending are encouraged to brush up on last year's recordings, which can be seen on our YouTube channel below: 👇

Father Erich's latest sermon has been uploaded to our YouTube channel.

Typically the second week after Pascha is observed in our liturgical calendar by celebrating the three Myrrh-bearing Women, who visit Christ's tomb after the Sabbath to annoint his body with spices and fragrances.

In this sermon, Father Erich discusses the story of the Myrrh-bearing Women and how it speaks to the role that women have played in the Church, juxtaposed against modern secular attitudes.
