Discovering Our Roots: Who was St Dunstan? ⛪️✨

On May 17th, we joyfully celebrated our parish's landmark 100th birthday! As we look back on a century of blessings, it is the perfect time to explore the deeper connection behind our very name.

Our parish is named after St Dunstan, the historic and influential Archbishop of Canterbury. In the liturgical calendar, the Church remembers and honors him on May 19th. Given how beautifully close our anniversary sits to his feast day, it is highly fitting that we take this opportunity to learn more about his incredible life, faith, and lasting legacy.

Did you know he was not only a spiritual leader but also a skilled metalworker, musician, and the subject of many famous medieval stories? 🛠️🎵

OPPORTUNITY: ST DUNSTAN'S

Our graphic design consultant has produced this AI-generated image of our church building, complete with the centenary logo, which we think looks fabulous. And it's had the Parish Council put its thinking caps on.

What does everyone think about using this for labels on our very own centenary wine? We've been in touch with a company that sources wonderful wines for use by charity organisations (and churches) for fund raising. They create and label the bottles with our own exclusive wine label. At the recommended selling price we could make $40 per dozen profit if we wanted, for example, to market the wines at our Centenary Christmas Market in December.

Or we could have a 100 year opportunity to create a memory for the parish and buy to give as gifts!

Feedback to members of Parish Council is welcomed. Cheers!

The seminar held on May 21 was a meaningful and enriching occasion for all gathered. Bishop Paul Francis presented a thoughtful paper on the current challenges facing Christian mission in India and offered a profound theological response that encouraged deep reflection and conversation. During the evening, former Archbishop Philip Freier and Joy, together with Bishop Paul and Revd. Indira, were felicitated on behalf of the congregation in gratitude for their ministry, friendship, and support to the Church.

It was especially heartwarming that Bishop Philip remained with us until after 9pm in spite of the long journey back to Ballarat following the program. Such generosity of presence and fellowship was deeply appreciated by all who attended. The evening was not only intellectually engaging but also a beautiful witness to Christian companionship and shared mission.

PENTECOST CAPE AT ST DUNSTAN'S

We celebrated Pentecost last Sunday evening with a Combined Anglican Parishes Evensong (CAPE) which we hosted at St Dunstan's. Parishioners and clergy from St John's Camberwell (along with their choir), St Peter's Box Hill, St Faith's Burwood and St Paul's Canterbury joined us to fill the church with traditional worship and music. Bishop Alison Taylor was also with us.

A huge thank you to all the helpers on Sunday evening who made the light refreshments, served, cleaned up and packed away. Your support is so gratefully received and definitely showed the Spirit gifts we are given. Thank you also to Rachel who, without any training other than on the job, managed the data projection idiosyncrasies with grace and humour.

OUR CENTENARY SERVICE MAY 17

What a wonderful day we had on May 17th: a full congregation, the Archbishop and Bishop, the Vicar and visiting clergy, local and state representatives, stunning flowers, inspiring music and then a sumptuous feast in the Hall. It was a joy to have so many friends of St Dunstan's joining us. We are all so grateful for the hard work by Chris, Maxine, John McK, Jenny, Shanta, Michael J. and the Vicar who made the service seamless and the celebration spectacular.
