UoN Catholic Society

UoN Catholic Society UoN Catholic Society provides a forum for students wanting to learn and grow in faith You can have a chat to Rob, our Catholic Chaplain there.

We are a group of young Catholics trying to live out the message of God in our everyday lives. In our Society we aim to:
-Be the face and presence of the Catholic Church at the University of Newcastle.
-Provide regular on-campus opportunities for worship, formation and communal gathering and, in doing so;
-Foster the spiritual and social wellbeing of its members, empowering them to become a commun

ity of evangelisers searching for God in all aspects of life.
-Seek opportunities for social justice, ecumenism and inter-faith dialogue that celebrate and recognise the presence of God in our wider community. Feel free to contact us to get involved, or drop in to the Chaplaincy Office in VG03, near the Hive Cafe and Maths Bus Stop at Callaghan campus.

On Good Friday, when our Lord Jesus died, we celebrate His death, and prepare for His ressurection, but furthermore Jesus told St Faustia about the divine mercy novena, a 9 day devotion starting on Good Friday until the Saturday after Easter, of which He said of the novena "By this Novena (of Chaplets), I will grant every possible grace to souls." The day before Divine Mercy Sunday, of which Jesus said "I want to grant unimaginable graces [on that day]"

Please consider attending this event celebrating multiculturalism and diversity of Catholics in Australia on Friday 19th December! Make sure you RSVP for catering purposes.

As our final nod to the Jubilee Year we are about to welcome the Migrant Jubilee Cross to Maitland-Newcastle! Next week our neighbouring Diocese will make the transfer at our border near Murrurundi. Our multicultural faith communities are then invited to celebrate with us when it reaches our Cathedral precinct and offices.

Join Bishop Michael in a hope-filled conversation about our ongoing journey of unity in diversity, together, on Friday 19 December, 2-4pm.

The cross contains relics of the Holy Family. Fragments of the Holy crib of Jesus, veil of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and cloak of Saint Joseph.

Register for catering purposes now: https://mn.catholic.org.au/event/a-conversation-with-bishop-michael-on-the-migrant-jubilee-cross-pilgrimage/

🔴Red Wednesday – Stand in Solidarity with Persecuted Christians

Throughout Red November, we join Aid to the Church in Need in praying for persecuted Christians around the world.

This year, we hold especially in our hearts those in Nigeria, Sudan and the Middle East, where many are facing grave danger and unimaginable hardship.

We invite you to take a moment today to pray for our brothers and sisters who continue to live their faith under threat. You can download the Red Rosary prayer card at www.rednovember.org

This week we light our Sacred Heart Cathedral in red to mark this important occasion.

Let us unite in hope, prayer and compassion. ❤️✝️

If you’ve been inspired as a Pilgrim of Hope in 2025, we’d love you to join Bishop Michael Kennedy this Christ the King Sunday as we celebrate our Jubilee Year blessings.

Together, we’ll commission 100 young people as they prepare for their pilgrimage to the Australian Catholic Youth Festival in Melbourne later this month.

All are welcome. And don’t forget to bring your Pilgrim Passport to receive a special Jubilee Year memento!
