Blessed Feast Day to you all!

The Orthodox Feast of Pentecost (celebrated exactly 50 days after Easter/Pascha) commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles. Often called the birthday of the Church, it signifies the establishment of the Christian Church and the final, full revelation of the Holy Trinity.

In the Orthodox faith, it marks the day the Holy Spirit descended as “tongues of fire,” granting the Apostles the ability to speak in various languages so they could spread the Gospel.

During the Sunday morning service the unique “Kneeling Vespers” take place. This marks the first time the faithful kneel in prayer since Easter- a posture of reverence previously suspended during the joyous Paschal season.

The week following Pentecost is entirely fast-free, allowing the consumption of all foods on Wednesday and Friday.

Scripture class on the topic of the Holy Land started by Anya Dubova 3/5 will continue on 24/5. All participants of the senior and the middle group are invited to join this very interesting presentation.

The book about Fr Rostislav Gan is now available from the Church kiosk. It is available in English and Russian and costs $35. Copies are being held in reserve for people who came to the memorial lunch and pre-ordered the book.
