Today, we came together for a wonderful community lunch celebrating Australian culture, history, and identity. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn, share, connect, and appreciate the rich cultural heritage of Australia.
A special highlight of the day was learning about Indigenous Australian culture from Hilton. His Acknowledgement of Country was deeply meaningful and gave us an opportunity to recognise the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we gathered.
We also explored some important Australian figures featured on our banknotes. We learnt about Banjo Paterson, whose image appears on the $10 note, and David Unaipon, featured on the $50 note. It was fascinating to hear about their contributions to Australian literature, culture, innovation, and history.
Music brought everyone together as we sang some much-loved Australian songs, including “Waltzing Matilda” and “I Am Australian” by The Seekers. There was a wonderful sense of togetherness as everyone joined in and celebrated what makes Australia so special.
Of course, no Australian celebration would be complete without some classic Aussie food! We enjoyed an Aussie BBQ, delicious lamingtons, and Anzac biscuits. The food, music, stories, and conversations created a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone.
Around 60 people joined us for the lunch, making it a truly special community gathering. It was wonderful to see people from different backgrounds coming together, sharing food, learning from one another, and celebrating Australian culture.
