PARISH NEWS: On Saturday, the Donnybrook-Capel Parish held the first of two parish conversations that are part of the lead-up to the Diocesan Assembly on Saturday 1 August 2026. 14 parishioners from both Capel and Donnybrook gathered at the Capel church meeting room, along with Fr Wayne Bendotti and parish facilitators Tim Jones and Shendelle Mullane, to discern where God is leading us into the future. Participants experienced the synodal ‘conversation in the spirit’ process to reflect on “What God is asking of us today in our parish?” A second parish conversation will be held on Wednesday 24 June, from 6pm to 8.30pm, at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Donnybrook. Everyone is warmly invited and encouraged to be part of this parish conversation.

Short Reflections – 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Matthew 9:36–10:8)

In today’s Gospel, Jesus looks upon the crowds and His heart is moved with pity because they are “troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd.” This beautiful passage reveals the compassionate heart of Christ. He does not ignore the suffering, confusion, and loneliness of people. Instead, He sees them, loves them, and reaches out to them.

Jesus then tells His disciples, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few.” The mission of the Church begins with compassion. Before Jesus sends His disciples out, He first teaches them to see people as He sees them—with mercy and love.

The same mission continues today. Jesus sends each of us to bring His healing presence to others through kindness, encouragement, prayer, and service. We may not perform miracles as the apostles did, but we can be instruments of God’s mercy to those who are wounded, lonely, or searching for hope.

As followers of Christ, let us ask for hearts like His—hearts that are moved with compassion. May we never pass by those in need, but become shepherds who lead others closer to God.

“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few.” May we generously respond to the Lord’s call and become faithful workers in His vineyard.

Amen.
