+ St Francis of Assisi heard a voice calling him to "Go and rebuild my Church". All these years later, let us pray for Pope Francis and for his efforts to rebuild the Church into a place of where all can experience Christ’s love, hospitality, saving truth and compassion. Who is welcome? "Todos, todos, todos", Pope Francis tells us ... "Everyone" is welcome!

Happy Feast Day of St Francis! Pray for us 🙏

+ St Padre Pio, pray for us!

Today we honour the great saint, St Pius of Pietrelcina, popularly known as Padre Pio! Known for many things, including his stigmata, miracles, and even occasions of wrestling with demons, Padre Pio is also a source of great consolation and hope. One of his sayings is, ‘Joy, with peace, is a sister of charity. Serve the Lord with laughter.’

There might be many reasons for us to feel anxious or fearful, but Padre Pio knew the only response to this was to put our trust in Jesus. Pray, hope, and don’t worry—but also laugh, because joy is infectious and at the heart of our proclamation.

Happy birthday Mother Mary! 💙

“The day of the Nativity of the Mother of God is a day of universal joy because through the Mother of God, the entire human race was renewed, and the sorrow of the first mother, Eve, was transformed into joy.”
- Saint John Damascene

+ Happy Father’s Day to all our awesome Fathers!

“St Joseph is the model of the educator and the dad, the father. I, therefore, entrust to his protection those who are fathers.

Best wishes to you on your day! I ask for you the grace to be ever closer to your children, allow them to grow, but be close, close! They need you, your presence, your closeness, your love.

May you be for them as St Joseph was: guardians of their growth in age, wisdom and grace. May you guard them on their journey: be educators and walk with them.

Thank you for all you do for your children: thank you. May St Joseph bless you and accompany you.”

- Pope Francis

+ Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who was intimately involved in the work of our redemption.

She offered herself completely to God’s plan to send His only Son as our Redeemer. It is only fitting that she was given the full fruits of Christ’s resurrection.

Catholic teaching declares that Mary was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.

She, who was immaculately conceived, did not suffer the corruption of the body as a consequence of Original Sin.

Queen assumed into heaven, pray for us!

+ Some of the beautiful words of Pope Francis during this World Youth Day 2023 in Lisbon, amidst the 1.5 million pilgrims gathered from all over the world!

• “As soon as the apostles get out of the boat to wash their nets, Jesus gets into the boat and calls them to lower their nets once more. At moments of discouragement, when we want to “retire”, let us allow Jesus to get into the boat again, with the excitement of the beginnings, an excitement that must be regained, reborn and relived. He comes to us amid our feelings of solitude and our crises, in order to help us begin anew. The spirituality of new beginnings. Do not be afraid of this. For that is how life is: we fail and we start over, we grow weary and we find renewed joy. We put our hands into the hands of Jesus. Today too he stands at the shore of our lives, to revive our hope and to say to us, as he did to Simon and the others: “Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch” (Lk 5:4). And when we lose excitement, we find a thousand justifications not to lower the nets, and particularly that sullen resignation that is like a worm eating into the soul. Brothers and sisters, we are surely living in difficult times, we know that, but the Lord is asking this Church: “Do you want to leave the boat and plunge into disappointment, or will you let me enter and allow the newness of my words once more to take the helm?…”

• “Today, as much as ever, the words spoken by Saint John Paul II at one World Youth Day ring true: ‘It is Jesus whom you seek whenever you dream of happiness. When you find little that brings you satisfaction, he is there, waiting for you. He is the beauty that you so greatly desire. He is the one who instils in you the thirst for fulfillment that does not allow you to settle for compromise. He is the one who urges you to set aside the masks that deceive. He is the one who enables you to understand the deepest desires of your heart, and to make the decisions that others may want to discourage you from taking. Jesus is the one who stirs within you the desire to do something great with your lives… Do not be afraid to entrust yourselves to him!’… (Prayer Vigil, Rome, 19 August 2000).”

• “Dear young people, I would like to look each of you in the eye and say: Do not be afraid! Now I will tell you something even more beautiful: Jesus himself is now looking at you. He knows you; he knows what is in your heart; he smiles at you and tells you once again that he loves you, always and infinitely. Always and infinitely! Go forth then, bringing God’s radiant smile to everyone! Go and bear witness to the joy of faith, to the hope that warms your hearts, and to the love that you bring to everything you do. Shine with the light of Christ. Listen to him so that you, too, may become the light of the world. And do not be afraid, for the Lord loves you and walks at your side. With Jesus, life is born anew, always.”

+ St Mary of the Cross, pray for us!

Today is the Solemnity of Australia’s beloved first saint, St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop. She is also the patron saint of the Archdiocese of Brisbane.

Born in 1842 in Melbourne, Australia, she dedicated her life to education and caring for the poor and underprivileged. She faced numerous challenges in her pursuit of providing quality education to children, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Her legacy continues to inspire people around the world to follow her example of compassion, dedication, and service to others, making a lasting impact on education and social welfare in Australia and beyond.

+ Happy Feast of Pentecost! 🕊️🔥

In the gospel today, Jesus breathes on his disciples and says, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit’ (John 20:22). This gesture points us to the story in Genesis where God breathes the breath of life into humanity, making us living beings. As God incarnate, Jesus brings a ‘new creation’: despite the brokenness and dysfunction of his people, God comes to set things right, to give us new life. The gift of the Holy Spirit is an extravagant gift indeed. It is the gift of God’s own self – his own breath, his own life – to make us his for eternity.

Let’s give thanks for this incredible gift today, asking the Holy Spirit to do God’s work in us.

+ Our Lady of Fátima, pray for us!

Today we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Fatima, one of the most famous Vatican-approved Marian apparitions. On this day, in 1917, more than 70,000 people witnessed the Miracle of the Sun—for some, the sun began to wheel and lower to the earth; for others it would tremble and whirl and emit a dazzling array of colours. Even the most sceptical, anti-religious writers of the day were bewildered, and many were converted as a result.

Today, let’s remember Our Lady’s words of hope to the three young seers at Fatima: ‘Come back to Jesus.’ Let’s entrust ourselves to Mary as our spiritual mother, who guides us always to her son, Jesus Christ.
