WAYNE'S TESTIMONY

Back in the late 1940’s my father and grandfather were walking on a beach in Tasmania with a man who was telling them about Prophecy in the Bible. Very interested, they also were told about how people could receive the Gift of the Holy Spirit.

In 1949 my Dad and later Mum and my Grandparents were all baptized by full immersion in water and received the Holy Spirit. At the time of the infilling of the Holy Spirit they all spoke out in other tongues as described in the Bible book of Acts.

I remember clearly when I was 12yrs old, thinking about my church friends who had been baptized in water and received the Holy Spirit like so many of my family. I saw for myself that I needed to be baptized. Shortly afterwards, I prayed, asking God to fill me with His Holy Spirit. I began to speak in an unknown tongue, just like my family, friends and people in the Bible. I was elated by the whole experience and I felt like I was floating on air.

For many years now I have believed in the healing power of God and how he has met so many needs. During my wife’s pregnancy with our second child she was in distress at about the halfway mark. Serious complications required bed confinement from then on. We prayed with real conviction and miraculously the umbilical cord that was causing serious bleeding shifted away. A normal pregnancy to birth followed.

In another moment in my life I was diagnosed with a hereditary thyroid cancer at about 40 years old. My younger brother died from it. I believed God would bless me and prayed with that knowledge. Surgery removed my cancer and God removed the fear that cancer brings. I was restored to good health. This cancer could appear in my children so I again earnestly prayed for my three daughters. I asked the Church to pray that it would not pass on to any of them. They were all tested and were found free of it. That knowledge brought me amazing peace.

My relationship with God has been marvellous for these so many years. I thank my God for His salvation and his help in life for meeting all my needs.

Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness (Matt6:33)
These words of Jesus Christ clearly direct us to what should be our priority in life. But what does it mean?
When we repent and are baptised by full immersion in water and when we receive the Holy Spirit, we have sought and found the kingdom of God and His righteousness; in essence we receive our ‘first love’. In the letter to the Ephesians church, as recorded in Revelation, it tragically indicates that they lost their first love. They forgot that their priority in life was to God and not to themselves. Seeking first the kingdom of God is not a one-off event; it is an ongoing, moment by moment focus and priority of our life.

AMBER'S TESTIMONY

I first heard about the full "Day of Pentecost" message when I was 14. I'd been brought up in a God believing house but we never really went to church regularly. Over about an 18 month period, I was being told things from the Bible by a friend at school that I hadn't heard before. However, despite seeing it in the Bible, I found myself trying to find a simpler way to follow God until my friend eventually said to me in no uncertain terms, if you want to follow God, you have to do it His way. And that was definitely my moment of repentance, the wake up call where I realised that I'd been looking at it the wrong way. Trying to fit God into my way of thinking rather than the other way around.

So when I was nearly 16, I got baptised by full immersion and whilst in the baptismal tank, I asked God to fill me with the Holy Spirit and He did, and I spoke out in a brand new language that the Bible refers to as speaking in tongues. It was a wonderful feeling to know that God was real, that tangible affirmation meant it was no longer just a faith or a hope thing. It was a knowing.

I used to swear a lot and I had a bad relationship with my mum, but after receiving the Holy Spirit, she said I was like a butterfly coming out of a cocoon and she ended up coming along to be baptised and received the Holy Spirit as well. And her sister in turn after that.

I'm just so grateful for the future that we have ahead, that's the thing that keeps me going, it's the promise of eternity with the Lord, regardless of what this life brings, there's something better coming and I'm not going to miss that for anything.

Influence
When a person first receives the Holy Spirit, they are likened to the size of a grain of mustard seed. A mustard seed has everything it needs inside to grow to be the biggest of trees. And thereby, to have an immense influence on its environment. (Matthew 13:31-32).
Spirit-filled people are in a position to be of great influence to those that are around them. The encouragement is to ensure that such influence is not discouraging but encouraging of fellow spirit-filled people and even more so, those who have not yet received the Holy Spirt.

JACQUI'S TESTIMONY

My mother and Nanna had been baptised and received the Holy Spirit so I grew up attending church and activities with them and my older brothers 3-4 times a week. My dad didn’t come along, and because I was still exposed to worldly influences through extended family and others, it helped me clearly see the difference between Godly living and the world.

As I grew, we were encouraged to seek our own personal relationship with God through the Holy Spirit. As a family, we often prayed together, especially on drives to church and events, asking for the Holy Spirit and healing. I became envious as I watched my brothers and friends receive God’s Spirit, and I prayed to experience the same.

Eventually, I realised I didn’t want God's spirit just to fit in or keep up with others — I wanted a genuine relationship with Him for myself. At age 9, God filled me with His Holy Spirit, evidenced by speaking in tongues, and I was then baptised by full immersion. It felt like seeing the world through rose-coloured glasses — everything looked and felt different.

Since then, I’ve recognised the blessing of God’s constant presence in my life. I now have a Spirit-filled husband, and together we call on the Lord through challenges and thank Him for His goodness.

God has been my one constant — my comfort beyond understanding and my source of belonging and purpose. Now, we are raising our children in a wholesome home where they see God working in our lives and are encouraged to seek their own personal relationship with Him.

Our battle: to win souls
As Spirit-filled people we are in a battle to win souls for the Lord. The main weapon we have is the gospel message of Jesus Christ and the word of our testimony. (1Cor9:19-23, Rev12:11). Whilst there are currently and have always been worldly events that are topical and foster comment and conversation, the battle is not fought or won by speaking and promoting anything else other than God’s gospel.

CRAIG'S TESTIMONY

I thought I knew God until …
I was traveling on holiday and stopped for a break at Mt Gambier in South Australia. Whilst walking around the local fare I came across a stranger who asked me 3 questions that I have never forgotten:

1. Do you believe in God? Answer: YES (as I was brought up in a God believing family + went to church).

2. Have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed? Answer. YES (At least I thought so… I had given my heart to the Lord – but never felt any different).

3. How do you know? Answer… Blank, I didn’t know at all – which prompted me to ask could I know with real evidence?

I then received the Holy Spirit and I knew because I spoke in tongues, was baptised by full immersion and was amazed at how simple it was, just as the Bible says. Since then I have seen a lot of miracles when calling upon the name of the Lord, including a blind person’s eyes change & then he could see … A lame man have his crutches taken away & he walked unaided, and many others. He is truly a powerful God.
