Hebrews 13:1-2
Well, the day has finally arrived. A new day for us all - the beginning of a new season. From what I hear both congregations had a wonderful time with old friends as we brought to a close the season of Living Faith and Broadwater Road Congregations. But just as it was a time to reflect and be sad - this week we are going to celebrate that God is doing something new as he brings together the strengths of everyone who are coming on the journey as Living Water Uniting Church.
We are excited that our moderator (Rev Bruce Moore) is able to participate as we make a covenant together as a new worshipping community. We are also excited to have Rev Peter Smale (a past Youth Minister at Broadwater Road and the current chairperson of the Pastoral Relations Committee of our presbytery) coming to preach to us as we start this new season.
Peter is preaching from Hebrews 13:1-8 & Luke 14:1; 7-17. Hebrews 13 starts with an encouragement to keep on loving each other and to never get tired of showing hospitality, even to strangers. We talk about being a welcoming and loving community - but in this transitional time - now is the time to really be doing it. It's been a long and difficult journey for some of us and so some people need a little bit extra TLC. But then there are new people turning up every week to check us out...so, if you don't know someone - talk to them - love them, and make them feel welcome! Maybe they will become a close companion in our journey into the future.
So, let's come to Sunday with anticipation and excitement - because our faithful God is going to do something new. I am certain of it!
