Our Adult Formation team had a wonderful time gathering at Santa Teresa Spirituality Centre on Saturday with 27 participants eager to deepen their understanding of Franciscan spirituality. Alison Stone from Franciscan Schools Australia led us through the lives and witness of St Francis and St Clare, helping us see how their vision of prayer still speaks powerfully to us today.

"For Franciscans the focus or gaze is not upward, but rather outward towards ordinary life, particularly focused on the Incarnation, where God chose to descend into our world to become one with us through the Incarnation of Jesus Christ." Sister Rosemary Stets, OSF

A heartfelt thank you to Alison for sharing her knowledge and passion with us. Join us for the next Powerhouse of Prayer event on Saturday 17th October. Get your tickets at tinyurl.com/PoPOct26 or reach out to [email protected] for more information.

Our Adult Formation team was thrilled to see over 70 participants at their Leading the Journey to Becoming Catholic formation event last Sunday afternoon! Participants came from across the Archdiocese of Brisbane (and a few groups from the Toowoomba and Lismore dioceses as well!)

With more and more people in our neighbourhoods exploring Christianity and looking to become Catholic, having healthy, thriving RCIA teams who invite, accompany and assist seekers on a journey to encounter Christ and join a faith community is so important in this cultural moment.

Dr Clare Schwantes was our keynote speaker, helping all those who gathered grow in confidence in understanding the language of the RCIA and its principles. We also had a panel of guest speakers: Sr Janette, Jacinta, Sherman and Gerry, who shared their lived experience of journeying with larger RCIA groups in the past 12 months. It was a great afternoon of learning, networking and being inspired together!

If you have questions about the RCIA, feel free to reach out to our Liturgy Brisbane team at [email protected] or our Adult Formation team at [email protected].

Last week, Archdiocesan Ministries hosted the inaugural ‘Honouring Our Elders Speaker Event’ which acknowledges local Elders within our archdiocese and the gift of their guidance, wisdom and generosity of spirit shared across parishes, schools and communities.

The evening was well attended and featured Scientia Professor Megan Davis AC. Her insights on reconciliation, especially in light of the Voice referendum and the Uluru Statement from the Heart, were both challenging and thought-provoking. At a time of increasing disinformation and division, Megan urged the church to remain courageous and committed to playing a key role both locally and nationally in leading reconciliation efforts.

A highlight of the night was celebrating Uncle David Miller. On behalf of Archbishop Shane and Executive Director Peter Pellicaan, RAP Manager Joni McCourt acknowledged with gratitude Uncle David’s unwavering dedication to reconciliation, his generosity in sharing cultural wisdom, and his legacy of nurturing intergenerational relationships across the Archdiocese of Brisbane.

This event was made possible with the generous support of Australian Catholic University.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in listening, learning, and honouring the voices that guide us toward truth and reconciliation. Let’s continue to walk this path together!

On Sunday, Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Parish launched their second plan for their parish, a pastoral plan that will carry them through to the end of 2028. As part of their celebrations, the Parish Leadership Team and Ministry Leadership Teams were commissioned by Fr Emmanuel for the work ahead.

It has been a privilege to walk alongside Our Lady of the Valley Parish as they’ve prayerfully discerned and shaped this Pastoral Plan - and what a witness it is to what God is already doing among them.

This plan is not simply a document, but a reflection of a parish alive in the Spirit - a community seeking to become a joyful, inclusive, inspirational, loving, Christ-centred and authentic people.

In their own words, they exist... "so that all generations come to develop an authentic relationship with Jesus Christ, become his hands and feet in the community, and live and spread the Word of God to bring fullness of life to all."

Thank you, Our Lady of the Valley Parish, for your openness, your courage, and your willingness to dream with God. The journey ahead is full of hope - because it is God's work and He is already at work among you.

Please join us in continuing to pray for Our Lady of the Valley Parish and the important ministry they are seeking to undertake over the next few years.

It was so good to join with the Romero Centre team and over 200 friends and supporters at last Sunday's Welcome Walk!

Welcome Walk is Romero Centre’s annual Refugee Week community event, bringing together refugees, people seeking asylum, multicultural communities, schools, community organisations, volunteers and supporters to celebrate inclusion, belonging and cultural diversity.

Along with the 5km community walk, the event included cultural performances, storytelling, community stalls, children's activities, community dialogue, food and refreshments, fundraising activities and opportunities for people to connect with organisations supporting refugee and multicultural communities.

Hearing directly from people connected to Romero Centre was deeply moving. Participants shared their lived experiences of seeking asylum, the challenges of fleeing conflict and starting again in Australia, and their gratitude for the support they've received from the Australian community and Romero Centre.

The Welcome Walk is a key fundraising event for Romero, who rely entirely on community support to provide their services. It's not too late to support this initiative, and all donations will be doubled until 30 June!

Can you help us reach our $25,000 target https://tinyurl.com/Walk-26

A big thanks to Fiona Simpson MP & Multicultural Affairs, Queensland Government for their support.

The Migrant Jubilee Cross has been out and about in Archdiocese of Brisbane!

Having already journeyed thousands of kilometres across Australia, the Pilgrimage of the Migrant Jubilee Cross is now being hosted right here in our archdiocese throughout June - visiting parishes, cultural communities, schools, and major events.

This is a beautiful celebration of the faith, gifts, and resilience of the 30+ cultural communities that make up our Church in Brisbane. Every person is welcome here.

Thank you to all the parishes, communities, ministries and groups who have hosted and prayed with the cross. You can find out more about the cross and it's journey at acmro.catholic.org.au/jubileecross

Have you seen our Children and Families Team at your parish recently?

This tireless team has been on the move over the last month supporting parishes all across the Archdiocese of Brisbane with Sacramental Preparation.

Though it's a lot of travel, planning and prepping, the highlights of these sessions are always spreading the message of God's love with the families they encounter! Thanks for trusting us with your young people. Know that we keep you all in our prayers when we gather as you continue to journey with the families in your midst.

Last night our very own Executive Director, Peter Pellicaan, launched his new book, for anyone curious about Catholicism - The Secret Catholic!

Written as a conversation between two mates at a bar, it was great to experience what that conversation would be like as we listened to two mates read through Chapter One.

Peter's heart for faith, the Church, and all to encounter the truth, beauty and goodness of what God has to offer is clear in every word. As he said himself, 'it was a joy to write and the words just flowed out every time I sat down to work on it'.

Buy a copy (or 5), read it, and then give it to anyone you know with questions!

Find out more and order at secretcatholic.com

Congratulations boss, it's a great book!
