That’s a wrap on Module 4 of the ACCF: A People on Mission!

On Monday night, we concluded an incredible 10 weeks of learning, reflection and growth. Over ten sessions, participants explored what it means for the Church to be a people sent on mission. Together, they reflected on the call to evangelisation, the role of mission in parish and family life, and how we are invited to share the Gospel in our wider communities with confidence, authenticity and joy.

Throughout the module, participants engaged with topics including the Church's missionary identity, mission and synodality, evangelisation in our cultural moment, the Holy Spirit as the source of mission, Catholic Social Teaching, and what it means for our parishes to become places that form missionary disciples.

Thank you to all who participated in this journey and contributed so generously to the conversations along the way. We pray that the knowledge, friendships and inspiration gained throughout this module continue to bear fruit in your families, parishes and communities!

Last week, a group of women joined Sr Theresa Maria Dao from Vocation Brisbane for another Sisterhood Breakfast!

The women spent the morning listening to God’s voice together, studying the Bible, sharing their faith, and having some nice food, before heading off to 10:00am Mass at St Stephen’s Cathedral.

The final Sisterhood event of the year will be held on 22 November, as a full day of spiritual reflection spent at Marian Valley. Find out more in the events section of the Vocation Brisbane page.

Last week, over 120 leaders from across the archdiocese gathered at Francis Rush Centre for a local experience of the Global Leadership Summit (GLS), a world-class leadership event streamed annually to over 120 countries.

The GLS provides an opportunity to gather with like-minded leaders and hear from experts in leadership from around the world, and process together how we can grow in our own leadership. This year's presenters included Andy Stanley, Arthur C. Brooks and Vanessa van Edwards, who all provided great insight and practical tips. The table conversations we had during the sessions were valuable for taking in the ideas from the speakers, and digesting them in ways helpful for own contexts.

We are so blessed in the Archdiocese of Brisbane to have so many incredible people serving, working and volunteering in our parishes, schools, communities, organisations and ministries who are all invested in growing as leaders. Thank you to everyone who came along - we pray the Holy Spirit keeps guiding and strengthening each of you as you lead in your community!

Who gets to tell you who you are?

There are so many voices competing to answer that question. Even as Christians, we can do all the “churchy stuff” and still not live a life that shows the world who God is.

Centuries ago, the town of Geel in Belgium became a refuge for people living with mental illness. Pilgrims came to the shrine of St Dymphna seeking healing. When the church’s annex overflowed, local families opened their homes to them. Nobody set out to build a mental health system; ordinary people made room.

This October, Pope Leo XIV asks us to pray for mental health ministry, and that the Church may be an “open house” for those carrying “silent wounds”.

So, what would it look like for our parishes across the Archdiocese of Brisbane to be that kind of sanctuary?

It might be noticing when someone stops coming to Mass, and checking in. It might be sitting with a friend through a hard season without rushing to fix it. It might be a parish that talks about anxiety and depression as openly as it prays for the sick. It might also mean making room for the carers, family members and health workers who are often carrying more than we see.

There is much that can be done. How do you see yourself or your community responding?

On Saturday, we gathered at the Santa Teresa Spirituality Centre in Ormiston for our latest Powerhouse of Prayer, where Archbishop Emeritus Mark Coleridge led us through the Psalms as a School of Prayer.

Participants from across the archdiocese spent the day with the prayers that have shaped worship for thousands of years. Archbishop Mark helped us see the Psalms as a teacher, showing us how to bring every part of our lives to God, from praise and thanksgiving to lament and longing.

Our sincere thanks to Archbishop Mark for sharing his wisdom and his love of Scripture with us.

Last weekend our Youth and Young Adults team (Catholic Collective) hosted another exciting Youth Leaders Masterclass, this time at Stella Maris Catholic Parish, Maroochydore.

Young people from across Brisbane came to brush up on their practical ministry skills, including running games and activities, planning youth events, sharing testimonies, leading small groups, leading worship, and more!

The young people in attendance buzzing being together to share in the mission of youth ministry and the joy of the Gospel.

Calling all youth groups on the Westside!

Next month will see a new All in Night being held at Our Lady of the Rosary School, Kenmore on Friday, 13 November.

The night will bring together youth groups to connect, pray together, share some laughs, eat some great food, and have fun. And keep an eye out for our Youth and Young Adults team there (Catholic Collective).

If you’re in a youth group please spread the word, round up the gang, and get ready for a night full of praise, worship, and authentic encounter with Jesus!
