Over the weekend, nearly 50 people gathered at St. Mary's Parish Coomera for an Alpha Retreat Day, a pivotal moment in a guest's Alpha journey.

At the heart of the 10-week Alpha experience, the retreat is the mountain-top moment, a day where Alpha guests are invited to discover the Holy Spirit and encounter God in a deeply personal way.

One thing that makes this Alpha truly special is who was in that room. Through intentionality, persistence and a growing culture of mission and invitation, this community has reached far beyond the walls of the parish. Built across four Alphas over two years, the fruit speaks for itself. At the close of the retreat, faith stories filled the room. People who never imagined they'd find themselves here - witches, agnostics, atheists - finding Jesus, community, and faith.

This is what it looks like when we say 'yes' to mission, week after week, year after year. St Mary's, we're praying for you all and can't wait to see what God does next 🙏

It was a real joy to spend time with the people of Noosa District Catholic Parish on Saturday, as over 50 parishioners gathered for a Parish Ministry day to be inspired for mission and service. Part of their day was spent exploring Charisms, including considering what charism each may have been gifted with, and their role in building the Church.

The final document from the Synod for a Synodal Church talks about 'the miracle of a Church stirred up by the fire of mission, with the courage to go out onto the streets of the world with the ability to be understood by all peoples and cultures. All believers are called to contribute to this impetus, accepting the charisms that the Spirit distributes abundantly to each one and committing themselves to place these at the service of the Reign of God with humility and creative resourcefulness.'

What a great bunch of people with big hearts for their local area and creating welcoming spaces for everyone to engage with faith! We're with you Noosa Parish as you continue to embrace the charisms the Spirit has given you and use them in your ministry and mission 🙏

Last Friday night, over 200 young people gathered in the Logan Deanery for an All In Night! These nights bring together youth groups from across the region to connect and pray together.

It was Pentecost weekend, and the Holy Spirit was present!

Our awesome Youth and Young Adult team, Catholic Collective, were blessed to be part of this event, and what a joy it is to be in the room and pray with this crew.

If you're ever wondering whether faith is still relevant to young people, check out what's happening, and join us as we pray for who came along on Friday, that the good work God began will continue long into those lives.

As we mark National Reconciliation Week, 27 May to 3 June, all are invited to join us for Mass at Cathedral of St Stephen, Brisbane at 10am on Friday 29 May as we pray together for healing, justice and reconciliation in our nation.

Mass will be followed by light refreshments and a presentation from Mayrah Dreise, a proud Yuwalaraay, Gamilaraay woman, and Senior Manager for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education at Brisbane Catholic Education.

Together, we acknowledge the enduring cultures, wisdom and spirituality of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and renew our commitment to walking together in truth and respect.

It's Laudato Si' Week! The quote on this year's banners was chosen by Archbishop Shane Mackinlay: "Human life is grounded in three relationships: with God, with our neighbour and with the earth itself". It's awesome to see twenty-two communities around the Archdiocese of Brisbane, parishes and schools, demonstrating our Catholic commitment to caring for our common home by displaying a banner - either with this year's quote or from previous years.

We are all called to think of actions we can undertake that care for the earth and, consequently, each other.

When the earth is suffering from pollution, loss of biodiversity, and climate change, the most vulnerable in our world suffer the most. With love and respect for God, each other and our earth, we are called to assess our actions and find new ways to protect the sacred gift of our earth.

So let's all ask ourselves: what can I do this Laudato Si' Week?

On Tuesday, Archbishop Shane Mackinlay was joined by leaders from nine other Christian denominations at the Cathedral of St Stephen for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, alongside students from ten Brisbane schools who placed lit candles before the altar as a sign of shared hope.

We were blessed to hear from Anglican Archbishop Jeremy Greaves speak on the value of different Christian traditions and denominations praying together as one body, humbly, in love. In a world suffering from division and mistrust, this simple act of praying across traditions is itself a testimony.

Archbishop Jeremy quoted a Wesleyan pastor and writer who wrote recently, “The world is not impressed by a church where everyone who is essentially the same is getting along with each other. The world needs to see the church practice what is extremely difficult to accomplish: an incredibly diverse group of people loving and advocating for one another.”

Join us as we continue to pray for unity amongst Christians that offers a witness of hope that the world needs right now 🙏
