Most conflict starts before the conversation does: with the assumptions we make about each other.

What if, instead of taking things personally, we chose curiosity?

Proverbs invites us to make our ears attentive to wisdom and to incline our hearts toward understanding. That does not mean agreeing on everything or excusing unkindness. It means slowing down long enough to ask: What is this person really trying to say? What might I be missing?

Understanding will not solve every disagreement. But it can stop us from building walls where there could have been connection.

You do not have to be in the same life stage to be real friends.

It is easy to make assumptions about people from another generation and, without meaning to, build walls between us.

But what if church could be a place where young parents and older adults genuinely enjoy each other’s company, learn from one another, and form friendships that go beyond small talk?

This conversation with Sarah and Alan is a reminder that every generation has something to give and something to receive.

Tag someone from a different generation who has made your life better, or share this with a friend who needs the reminder.

What could change if we stopped making assumptions about other generations and started getting to know one another?

In this upcoming episode of The People of Springwood Podcast, Sarah and Alan - one millennial, one baby boomer - share honest stories of faith, family, church and life from two very different seasons.

Rather than trying to speak for entire generations, they explore what it looks like to listen with curiosity, honour one another’s experiences, navigate change, and discover what younger and older people can offer each other in the life of the church.

Keep an eye out for when this episode drops later this week, then listen in and take one practical step: start a meaningful conversation with someone from a different generation this week. We are stronger together.

In Loving Memory of Gladys May Waters 🕊️

It is with sadness that we share the passing of our beloved church member, Gladys May Waters, who passed away peacefully on 14 September 2026, surrounded by her loving family, aged 83.

Gladys was a much-loved and faithful part of our Springwood church family. For many years, she faithfully served as an elder, as well as serving in many other roles within our church. Her years of service, care and commitment have been a blessing to our church community, and we are grateful for the life she shared with us and the memories she leaves behind.

Gladys was the beloved wife of Geoff, loving mother and mother-in-law of Merilyn & Chris and Tony & Sue, and cherished Nanna of Ashley, Harry, Charli, Raya and Nathaniel.

Geoff Waters Gladys Waters

Our thoughts and prayers are with Geoff, her children, grandchildren and the rest of her family and loved ones as they grieve the loss of someone so dearly loved.

Family and friends are invited to join us as we celebrate Gladys’ life and remember the impact she had on those around her.
