LIVING WATER: What happens when the water no longer gives life? An important read, a lead into to Sunday’s sermon, and a call for response.

“In Polynesia water surrounds, sustains and connects us. Living water is life — new life. As Christians we share a common faith in Christ and praying for Creation is very important because our living waters are being wounded by warming seas, pollution, plastics, extractive industries, biodiversi...

FATHER’S DAY is complex for many people. We celebrate those who celebrate today, and grieve with those for whom today is not a day of joy.

Father’s Day can mean many things. 💙

For some, it’s a day of love and celebration, but for others, it can bring grief, longing or painful reminders.

Whether you’re a dad, missing your dad, separated from your children, or never had a father figure—your feelings today are valid.

If today feels heavy, please know you don’t have to go through it alone. Talking about it and reaching out for support can make a difference.

If you would like online counselling, free help or mental health support, contact MensLine Australia or Beyond Blue.

FATHER’S DAY: Father’s Day is a complex day for many. Here’s a pray for the fathers and father-figures in your life. You might like to share it with them.

A prayer for dads to pray for their vocation to be a father
(of course, change the plural children to singular child, and so on, as appropriate to your context)

Our Father in heaven,
help me to be a good Dad to these children,
gentle and kind, loving and wise,
able to admit when I'm wrong
and ready to learn from my mistakes.
Teach me to take time with my children
to play with them
and to pray with them too.
Show me the best ways to guide them through life,
and may they always know how much I love them,
and that you love them too. Amen.

SEASON OF CREATION: Whilst we’re enjoying a few days of Spring, this weekend is going to be quite hot for September. How do we respond as Christians as we care for the creation, of which we are a part.

Humanity must stop pretending it doesn't know what it's doing to the Earth.

That's the message from Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, marking 1 September as both the start of the Orthodox ecclesiastical year and the Day of Prayer for the Protection of the Natural Environment, an observance the Ecumenical Patriarchate established in 1989 and which now brings Christian communities together worldwide: "a symbol and practical promotion of the unity of Christians," as he put it.

"Humanity must at last cease acting as though it does not know and definitively cast aside the illusion that planet Earth can in perpetuity withstand the burdens and destruction caused by human activity, or that nature has the power to renew itself of its own accord."

He's calling for "ecological responsibility" to become "a categorical imperative," for individuals and for humanity as a whole, pointing to the Gospel's parable of the "foolish rich man" as a warning against the consumerism still driving the crisis. What's needed, he says, is nothing less than a "Copernican Turn" in how we understand progress and creation itself.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA MARTYRS DAY: Did you know four of the Anglican Papua New Guinea Martyrs came from Queensland? Please support their legacy.

Today is Papua New Guinea Martyrs Day.

On 2 Sep each year, we remember the courageous sacrifice of those local and expatriate Martyrs who, in the face of great danger, remained committed to the communities they served in PNG.

We honour their memory through the Martyrs Gift – supporting education, strong leadership and brighter futures for our neighbours in Papua New Guinea.

🙏 Honour their legacy today - please support the Martyrs Gift:
