AYCF at the Tween Holiday Day at the Cathedral - September 23. What a fun day I had at the Tween Day organised by the team at the Cathedral. Food craft, paper plane flying competitions, writing our own prays of thanks, Bible study, hymn singing and a visit to the bell tower were amongst the activities. When we were up in the bell tower and the kids got a chance to ring the bells I did wonder what people on the street thought of our sounds! We finished the day with a Eucharist service where the kids shared their insights from their Bible study on Matthew 10 and sang the hymns we had practised. Thank you Rev'd Julia for organising a wonderful day for the young people.

Join us for 'Pass it On', Monday September 21. 10:30 to 11:30am with guest speaker Jude Markland. Jude Markland is an Anglican chaplain and experienced spiritual care practitioner who has served at Queensland Children’s Hospital, including as Spiritual Care Coordinator. Her ministry has involved walking alongside children, young people and their families through illness, uncertainty, grief, loss and bereavement.
Jude is passionate about providing compassionate spiritual care that honours each child and family’s own beliefs, values and experiences. She has a particular interest in how we can gently and authentically support children as they encounter grief and loss, creating safe spaces for difficult questions, emotions, hope and meaning.

On Sept 6, Aaron, long term supporter of AYCF, and myself took the opportunity extended to us from Queensland Churches Together to attend an Interfaith Conference on Conflict Management, hosted by The Australian Pakistan National Association (APNA). This conference marked APNA"s 10th anniversary hosting the annual interfaith event and this time at QLD Parliament House. Aaraon was invited to speak on how his Christian faith helps in conflict management along with other young people from different faith backgrounds. He had 3 minutes to speak and did a great job representing the Christian faith. Bahai, Buddhism, Isam, Judaism, Sikhism, Hinduism, Islam as well as Christianity were all represented at the conference. 'Pass it On' will be online August 25, 12 to 1pm. With guest speaker Bettrys Lowe from St Bart's Toowoomba sharing with us in the topic "Teaching the Bible to Kids!"
Bettrys is currently the Director of Children, Youth, and Families at St Bart's. Her role focuses on weekly curriculum development (0-18years), delivery of content, leading teams, developing leaders, children's ministry consultation, and being part of the Chapel team at Toowoomba Anglican School. My work in intergenerational ministry has been shaped by several deeply held convictions about worship, community and faith formation. At the heart of this work is the belief that Christian community is not simply strengthened by good relationships; rather, the quality of our relationships is itself central to the proclamation of the Gospel.

I am also convinced that God is often encountered most powerfully when people of difference (including ages), experiences and perspectives are brought into genuine relationship with one another. In those encounters, the whole community has the opportunity to be shaped, challenged and transformed.

These convictions have led to a long-standing commitment to intergenerational ministry in both local and wider church contexts. I have attended the Intergenerate Conference in the United States, served for more than five years on the Intergenerate Australia and New Zealand planning team, and contributed to the Engage All Ages podcast, which encourages churches to bring the generations closer together.

Alongside this wider involvement, I bring 26 years of professional and faithful practice across diverse ministry contexts within the Anglican Church Southern Queensland. This experience includes the practical work of parish leadership, worship planning, faith formation, community engagement and change leadership. I have both experience of successful initiatives and things that did not work.

I approach intergenerational ministry not as a program to be added to church life, but as a way of reimagining how the whole community worships, learns, serves and grows together in Christ.
