In October last year we officially launched The Psalms Project, an album of ten psalms written to new melodies by local Catholic artists.

In this psalm, Psalm 47 (46) – 'Shouts Of Joy' (track #10), Jae Lah-Youn (Darra Jindalee Catholic Parish ) wrote the melody.

Here's what she has to say about the inspiration behind this track:
“I love the idea of Jesus doing anything to the sound of our cheers. It feels right that he ascends humming along to our praises, for it is the God of love himself who generates so much joy. This joy holds my attention and leads me to worship. His goodness is worthy of my concentration and life-giving in ways I've yet to understand.”

In October last year we officially launched The Psalms Project, an album of ten psalms written to new melodies by local Catholic artists.

In this psalm, Psalm 24 (23) – 'To See Your Face' (track #5), Maddie Luciani (Emmanuel Community) wrote the melody.

Here's what she has to say about the inspiration behind this track:
“To seek God’s face in all things, trusting in the One who made all things. This is the spiritual journey we go on each and every day, searching for the one our souls long for. Through trials or joy, we are reminded in every season of life that we are not alone. Respond to the tug of your heart in each season, knowing God is with you as you pray in confidence, 'Lord, this is the people who long to see your face'.”

In October last year we officially launched The Psalms Project, an album of ten psalms written to new melodies by local Catholic artists.

In this psalm, Psalm 98 (97) 'The Saving Power Of God' (track #4), Tigi Johnson (Nambour Parish) wrote the melody and it was performed on launch night by Rachel Spackman (Surfers Paradise Catholic Parish).

Here's what Tigi has to say about the inspiration behind this track:
“It is so easy to get swept up in the busyness of life. Weeks flow onto each other and months seem to melt into one blob of time. Still, God's love and mercy is new each day. We are invited to sing a new song of thanks for all that God has done, is doing and will do.”

In October last year we officially launched The Psalms Project, an album of ten psalms written to new melodies by local Catholic artists.

In this psalm, Psalm 25 (24) – 'I Lift My Soul' (track #3), Jason Rosario (Hendra Hamilton Northgate Parish) wrote the melody.

Here's what he has to say about the inspiration behind this track:
“To lift our soul to the Lord... These are some heavy words, pun intended 😉, words we should strive for. Why? Life can be tough but with a bit of help from friends and family it can be made a bit easier. The same can be said with God. He teaches us, guides us, walks with us and most importantly wants to be your friend, if you let Him.”

Joanna Bach (Newman Society) wrote the melody for Psalm 92 (91) – 'Give Thanks' (track #8) of The Psalms Project album.

Here's what she has to say about the inspiration behind this track:
"'It is good to give thanks to the Lord... to proclaim your love in the morning.' Some mornings are full of promise and sunshine and bright eyes. Other mornings involve snoozing the alarm six times and falling out of bed, half-blind. Life is packed with different kinds of mornings, but this psalm reminds me that God is always good, no matter what. He is worth thanking every morning. So whether it’s a groggy morning, or a jump-out-of-bed-and-go-get-em kind of morning, thank the One who made it and begin the day in His Love."

Nathan Webb (Toowoomba Diocese) wrote the melody for Psalm 4 – 'Shine On Us' (track #9) of The Psalms Project album.

Here's what he has to say about the inspiration behind this track:
"Trials and tribulations will come, but the face of the Lord will never leave. This is one of those Psalms that I like to pray between trials, as a reminder to keep the Lord ever in my sight; these prayers add nothing to the mercy and glory of God, but incline the heart towards the one true source of Salvation who is the God of justice. This Psalm reminds me of the Lord's goodness and faithfulness through thick and thin. The face that shines on us is the face of the Father's delight (c.f Matt 17:5b). It is in the assurance that our faith in the Lord means that I can dwell in real safety and rest in true peace."

Emma Fradd (Jubilee Parish) wrote the melody for Psalm 66 (65) – 'Cry Out With Joy' (track #7) of The Psalms Project album.

Here's what she has to say about the inspiration behind this track:
“This idea of the ‘earth bowing’ to God, that when he ‘turned the sea to dry land’ the Israelites ‘passed through the river dry-shod’, our God has dominion over all the earth and it bows obediently to his will. The psalm ends with ‘I will tell what he did for my soul’. Unlike nature, we can have an intimate personal relationship with our God, and the psalmist invites us to proclaim what God has done.”

Georgina Devenish-Meares (Jubilee Parish) wrote the melody for Psalm 42 (41) – 'My Soul Longs For You' (track #1) of The Psalms Project album.

Here's what she has to say about the inspiration behind this track:
“The words of this psalm seem to be a necessary and constant prayer for me. Like a deer panting after water, there is a yearning to be closer to God and struggle to press on in joy when His presence feels far. Through it all, eyes to Him.”

Rachel Spackman (Surfers Paradise Parish) wrote the melody for Psalm 51 (50) – 'A Clean Heart' (track #6) of The Psalms Project album.

Here's what she has to say about the inspiration behind this track:
"Have you ever checked in with yourself, your heart, your soul and asked 'am I steadfast in my faith?' And 'am I living accordingly?' When our ideals and mindsets are indifferent to God’s plan for us, our spirit wavers from the path we should be walking with God. The verse 'put a steadfast spirit within me' is a powerful yet extremely difficult verse to sing as we are asking God to renew our spirits and in turn, vowing to be firmly fixed in God’s love, and so acting in His love. This vow is not a once in a liturgical year promise we sing at Mass; it’s a lifetime, everyday vow. It’s soul work."
