“When scientists revealed the Antarctic ozone hole in 1985, it sent shockwaves around the world. Our planet’s shield against harmful UV radiation was in crisis, so the world answered with the Montreal Protocol.
This treaty has successfully phased out 99% of ozone-depleting substances and set the world on course to reclaim the ozone layer by around 2066.
But the Protocol also has the potential to do something else: slow climate change.

SEASON OF CREATION, 2025

This year’s theme is “Peace with Creation”, inspired by Isaiah 32:14-18:
“For the palace will be forsaken, the populous city deserted; the hill and the
watchtower will become dens forever, the joy of wild asses, a pasture for
flocks. Until a spirit from on high is poured out on us, and the wilderness
becomes a fruitful field, and the fruitful field is deemed a forest. Then justice
will dwell in the wilderness and righteousness abide in the fruitful field.
The effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness,
quietness, and trust forever. My people will abide in a peaceful habitation,
in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.” (NRVUE)

SOFT PLASTICS RECYCLING TRIAL

With delight and by chance, our parish Care for Creation group recently spotted a soft plastics recycling trial bin in Woolworths, Sandgate.
We understand that there is also a bin in Woolworths, Bracken Ridge.
This is great news!

So, we investigated further…and have discovered that certain stores / locations in Australia are part of the trial.
The trail is being administered by SOFT PLASTIC STEWARDSHIP AUSTRALIA

Another bit of good news! We discovered that the huge stockpiles of soft plastics stored in warehouses around Australia 🇦🇺 - following the collapse of redcycle - have now been recycled.
