Hebrew lai a lungluttading!
HEBREW Unit 1
Introduction
Welcome. I have attempted to make this a simple study that is not thorough at all. The history of the Hebrew language is very very complex and involves a lot of time period and variables. But let's start with what is called the Proto Canaanite form of the Hebrew language.
I want to make note that this information is not at all meant to diminish anyone's spiritual beliefs or aspects of the language. This is only about language development.
In the photos below you will see how Hebrew as a language developed from several stages.
1). Early Hebrew in ancient times is known as the PROTO-CANAANITE.
Pictures tell stories, and this was a powerfully descriptive method in the language symbols used. Very few surviving documents exist, only fragments and partial scripts have been found. As a matter of fact, new findings recently on an ancient comb artifact had this ancient language scribed into the piece.
2). Biblical or classical Hebrew was prominent until around the 3rd century. This Hebrew relied heavily on the oral tradition to assist it. Memorization was important. No working vowels existed in written form.
3). The dead sea scrolls date sometime in the next period. New discoveries about scripture came about from this find.
4). Mishanite Hebrew, as it is sometimes called, dates from approximately 600 CE to perhaps 1200. Vowel development was a major occurrence through these scribes who tried to preserve the fading oral tradition by the development of a vowel " pointing " system known as nikkud/niqud.
This will become major part of your studies as you progress.
5). Medieval Hebrew . As per the name, this occurred in the early middle age period.
6). Modern Hebrew. This refers to language of Israel in current times
You also need to understand that language comes out of the culture of a people. You will probably see and hear variations in pronunciation, transliteration, and other aspects.
Try to avoid the constant bickering over how to pronounce the Lord's name , and move forward into your studies. W's and V's are usually an issue with many people. I typically don't let this bother me.
HEBREW also has a branch that came along as empires developed.
Greek then Latin developed out of the Hebrew languages, albeit, this is a complex subject.

We will look at the Hebrew alphabet next and begin your journey. Don't get discouraged.
This does take time in a regular basis.. Casual Hebrew study is difficult because you won't see much result.. .
