Today we honour St Joseph, the patron saint of workers, husbands and fathers.
First appearing in the gospels of Matthew and Luke, St. Joseph was the earthly father of Jesus Christ and the husband of the Virgin Mary. A carpenter by trade, he was engaged to Mary when he discovered that she was pregnant. The Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and revealed that Mary had conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, and commanded that he take Mary as his wife and Jesus as his own Son. Without question or hesitation, he did as the angel commanded and unquestioningly obeyed the commands of God by taking his family to the safety of Egypt to flee the wrath of King Herod, returning to Nazareth; presenting his child in the Temple for circumcision and formal presentation and travelling to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover. Although St. Joseph was not the physical father of Jesus, he was a father in every other sense of the word, he was responsible for the religious education of his Son, including teaching Him to read the Sacred Scriptures and later passed on his trade to Jesus who became known as “the carpenter’s son”. Joseph died before Jesus began His public ministry. He is also the patron of the Universal Church, families, homes, carpenters, pregnant women, travellers, immigrants and people buying or selling homes.
St Joseph, pray for us.

It was wonderful to be back face to face for Kids Church this morning. The children had lots of fun drawing with chalk on the church drive. They drew signs that we are ready for God when he returns. They said we can be ready by being kind and loving and looking after each other and looking after our environment.
