Psalm 34:18

Our hearts are heavy after yesterday’s tragedy at Bondi Beach. We are praying for the victims, their families, the community, and the brave individuals who stepped into danger so that others might live. May God hold them close, and may He watch over Sydney. As Christmas nears in the shadow of this sorrow, let us move forward with gentler hearts, greater kindness, and deeper love.🕯️

Post Holiday Blues:

After the hustle and bustle of the holidays, there can be an emptiness that moves in and hangs heavy in your heart. Friends and family have left, all the decorations have been put away, and everyone goes back to their usual routine - but somehow it seems that it all went by way too fast. This is the perfect environment for loneliness to settle in - but fortunately there is a cure for the post-holiday blues! Praise time! Whenever you’re tempted to focus on your own problems, praise Jesus instead. If you feel lonely, discouraged, or depressed - it’s the perfect time to praise Jesus and count your blessings! Develop a spirit of praise every day by increasing your prayer time and as you go throughout your day, take advantage of thanking God for all the good things in your life - even simple things such as having water to drink, a warm bath, food, a roof over your head, friends and family, and even a good parking space! You’ll find that the more you praise God, the more things you’ll find to praise Him for because the list is endless! And here’s the best part - you just can’t be depressed when your lips are singing praises to your heavenly Father! The Bible says in 2 Samuel 22:50, “Therefore I will give thanks to you, O LORD, among the heathen, and I will sing praises to your name.” And in Psalm 34:1, David makes this promise to God: “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” Keep on praising Jesus and, before you know it, holiday blues are gone and replaced with newfound praise that is bubbling over! Text: Psalm 35:18,28, Daniel 2:23, Hebrews 13:15, Deuteronomy 10:21

A Fresh Beginning:

January 1st is a special day as it is the first day of a brand new year. It’s a day of new beginnings, opportunities, and a chance to start over. Perhaps last year was particularly challenging with trials you never had to face before. But instead of being bitter and angry, thank Jesus for helping you grow. Don’t fall into the devil’s trap of reliving painful memories of the past and holding onto bitterness, anger, and regrets . . . because they will only weigh you down like an anchor in the ocean and destroy your soul. God wants you to praise Him in the good times and the bad. James 1:2-4 tells us, “Don’t run from tests and hardships, brothers and sisters. As difficult as they are, you will ultimately find joy in them; if you embrace them, your faith will blossom under pressure and teach you true patience as you endure. And true patience brought on by endurance will equip you to complete the long journey and cross the finish line—mature, complete, and wanting nothing.” God doesn’t want you to be a slave to your past. He wants to give you a fresh start and a new beginning. That doesn’t mean that life will be a bed of roses and you’ll never experience pain - but it does mean that you will not suffer alone. The Bible says in Isaiah 43:2, “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” Start this new year right by building a strong, faith-filled future based on “God's vision” for your life instead of your own and you are sure to have a better year with a fresh new beginning. Text: Psalm 118:24, Isaiah 43:18-19, Philippians 3:13-14, Hebrews 11:8-10

Only One Resolution

The last day of the year is a good time to look back and reflect on all the blessings God has given you and thank Him for His goodness, grace, and mercy. Ask Him to bring to your mind the blessings you may not remember. You don’t want to overlook any of them, especially the ones that you didn’t recognize as “God’s favor” at the time. Thank Him for being there for you in those difficult times, even when your faith was weak. God delights hearing from His children and He especially loves to hear your praises. As you look ahead to tomorrow, the beginning of a brand new year, you need to make “one” resolution, and only one. And that resolution is . . . to make this Year the year that you “become more like Jesus!” To do that requires you to spend even more time with Him. You can’t have a close relationship with anyone that you are not communicating with. Invite Jesus to dwell in your heart. Pray David’s prayer in Psalm 51:10-13 when he longed to be closer to God, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.” The reason this prayer is so important is because Jesus and Satan cannot live in the same heart, so you want a clean heart where God can dwell. Notice that David prayed not only for his own heart to be clean, but that God would use him to witness to others. There will be times when self gets in the way and the devil’s pull is strong, so ask God to give you victory over temptation and for courage to make the right decisions. Pray for guidance as David did in Psalm 119:33, “Teach me, O Lord, to follow your decrees; then I will keep them to the end.” To be more like Jesus means taking on His characteristics, so be kind, loving, unselfish, tender towards others and hate no one. Before you close your eyes tonight, let your last prayer for this year be your new resolution . . . “Lord, please make me more like You.” Text: Philippians 1:6, 1 Kings 8:61, Deuteronomy 6:5, Luke 9:62

THE DEMON DOGS OF TYRANNY ARE HUNGRY FOR ALL FLESH

Just speaking for myself here, and you may or may not find this beneficial for yourself as you navigate our treacherous times.

As I encounter the nonstop flow of “information” and “news” coming at me through various media outlets, as well as the strident opinions of family and friends, the only way I will be able to remain objective and know truth is by deliberately engaging in the intellectual discipline of choosing to be guided by principles rather than by parties, by solid ideals rather than by shifting ideologies, by transcendent morals rather than by trans-moral agendas.

Scripture points me in this very direction— towards principle-based thinking rather than party-based loyalty. I’m not with any group, but rather with the truth regardless of what group or individual happens to be speaking it at any given passing moment.

Bible prophecy does not name individual persons as enemies, but rather pinpoints monolithic political, religious, and financial institutions as the corporate forces that will combine their influence to create a kind of new Rome, a modern Babylon, a contemporary tyranny over the masses by means of deception and force, all under the guise of ensuring our safety from the danger of someone’s individual rights and freedoms.

The moment I begin to think that there are a few dangerous voices or views that must be stopped in order to protect us from their voices and views, I have begun to support an authoritarianism that will eventually come for me. The moment I am OK with political and financial pressures being used by those in power to shut down the voices of those with whom I disagree, I am siding with the devil in the name of Jesus, or, for the non-religious folk, I am siding with evil in the name of good. The demon-dogs I unleash on my enemies, after devouring them, will turn around and come after me.
