YOUTH PoWR

YOUTH PoWR The inaugural Youth PoWR was held in 2015. In this short time, Youth PoWR has become the largest interfaith event for youth in Australia.

Youth PoWR (Parliament of the World's Religions) brings together young adults (18-35) from diverse religious backgrounds in a spirit of interfaith dialogue and unity to build bridges between believers of different religions. Youth PoWR (Parliament of the World's Religions) brings together young adults aged 18-35 to have a voice and a vote in shaping our multicultural, multi-religious society. By m

eeting one another in a positive, friendly atmosphere, engaging in conversations and making shared commitments, Youth PoWR creates a positive experience of a multi-faith society, breaking down ethnic and religious stereotypes and building social cohesion. The latest initiative of Youth PoWR is the development of an interfaith charter, The Sydney Statement. Youth PoWR is for youth, by youth, with youth. The planning, promoting and hosting of Youth PoWR is done by the Coordinating Committee, a multi-faith team of young adults from different religions. The members are volunteers. They are nominated by peak national and state religious bodies (such as the Buddhist Council of NSW, the Hindu Council of Australia, the Sikh Council of Australia, the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies) or by past and present team members. Ryan Epondulan, the Youth and Networking Coordinator of the Columban Centre for Christian-Muslim Relations (CCCMR), is Chair of the Coordinating Committee. Rev Dr Patrick McInerney, Director of the CCCMR, is mentor of the Coordinating Committee. CCCMR provides the administrative backup for Youth PoWR.

Happy Harmony Day! Today, 21 March, marks the highlight of Harmony Week, with the theme "Everyone Belongs."

In Australia, our strength lies in our stories - from the 65,000 years of First Nations history to the many cultures that have joined us from around the globe. Today is about more than just wearing orange; it’s about opening up conversations, practising respect, and ensuring that everyone in our community feels seen and valued.

It's also a day to reflect on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. While we celebrate how far we’ve come, we also recommit to the work of making Australia a place where harmony isn't just a word, but a lived reality for everyone.

I am appalled by and condemn wholeheartedly this terrible criminal attack. It is a violation of our common humanity and this festive season.
My sympathies to all those affected, those killed snd injured, their families, and all who have been impacted and traumatised, those caught up in the tragedy in Bondi, and those affected by the news of this attack on fellow citizens. Terrirism has no religion. May the perpetrators be brought to justice.
My prayer is for calm, for justice, and for an end to communal and racist hatred snd violence in all its vile forms.

Police say there are multiple fatalities following a shooting near a Jewish gathering at Sydney's Bondi Beach. Follow live.
