Today’s GOSPEL: Matthew 9:36 – 10:8

When Jesus saw the crowds he felt sorry for them because they were harassed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is rich but the labourers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send labourers to his harvest.’

He summoned his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits with power to cast them out and to cure all kinds of diseases and sickness. These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew; James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, the one who was to betray him. These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them as follows: ‘Do not turn your steps to pagan territory, and do not enter any Samaritan town; go rather to the lost sheep of the House of Israel. And as you go, proclaim that the kingdom of heaven is close at hand. Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out devils. You received without charge, give without charge.’

With grief in our hearts we share the sad news that James Forbes died on Monday 8 June, eleven months after a diagnosis of kidney cancer.

We pray for Kate, Robert, John, Zoe and all the family. May God provide them comfort during this time of great loss.

We give thanks for the many gifts James shared with his family and with the community. May James rest peacefully in the loving arms of God.

As it is Blackheath church community’s feast day, we will have a celebration lunch on Sunday, June 14 at Blackheath Golf Club.

We pray:
Lord Jesus, let our hearts never rest until we find you, who are its center, its love, and its happiness. O most Sacred Heart of Jesus, we place our trust in you.

Corpus Christi is the feast when we celebrate and give thanks for the gift of Christ's body and blood by which we are strengthened spiritually. We are reminded of the great sacrifice Jesus made through his crucifixion and resurrection.

We pray:
Lord Jesus Christ, our hearts overflow with gratitude for the gift of your Body and Blood. You did not leave us alone to journey through this world without your presence. Instead, you remain with us in the Holy Eucharist, feeding our souls with heavenly nourishment and strengthening us with divine grace.

Today’s GOSPEL - John 6:51-58

Jesus said to the Jews: ‘I am the living bread which has come down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever; and the bread that I shall give is my flesh, for the life of the world.’

Then the Jews started arguing with one another: ‘How can this man give us his flesh to eat?’ they said. Jesus replied: ‘I tell you most solemnly, if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you will not have life in you. Anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my blood has eternal life, and I shall raise them up on the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.bWhoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me and I live in them. As I, who am sent by the living Father, myself draw life from the Father, so whoever eats me will draw life from me. This is the bread come down from heaven; not like the bread our ancestors ate: they are dead, but anyone who eats this bread will live for ever.’
