Thank you to the incredible volunteers who gave up their weekend for the Red Shield Appeal 💛 From shaking tins at intersections to staffing collection points and supporting local corps, your generosity made a real difference. On International Women’s Day we celebrate the power of contributions by women in shaping a brighter future.

When women give bravely and boldly, the world gains beautifully, and as we champion gender equality, communities will grow stronger, shaping a more just and hopeful future. ❤️

Last week, our new Chief Secretary, Colonel John Chamness and I, were deeply moved to be part of the unveiling of the Salvo Wall at Lanson Place Parliament Gardens - a beautiful tribute honouring the ministry that once operated within these walls during The Salvation Army’s ownership. Featuring historic images and the return of the original brass plaque, it is a meaningful reminder of the faithful service that took place here.
This moment also marked how far a simple coffee and conversation in July 2023 has come. Only 16 months later, our former printing works at 502 Albert Street, first built in 1902, had been thoughtfully transformed into a boutique hotel that honours both its history and our enduring Salvation Army connection.
Throughout the hotel, carefully curated artworks reference the building’s printing past, including a stunning glass ceiling inspired by flowing manuscript pages, and Salvation by Brigita Ozolinsis, which translates our motto Soup, Soap, Salvation into binary code. The team at Lanson Place Parliament Gardens describe themselves as connected ‘forever’ and we are truly grateful for their ongoing support in so many meaningful ways. Well worth a visit!

As bushfires once again impact communities across Victoria, I want to take a moment to speak directly to our SAES personnel, local corps and our mighty volunteers and supporters. To each of you who have stepped forward - often quietly, always faithfully - please know how deeply grateful we are. In conditions that are unpredictable, exhausting and at times confronting, you continue to show up with compassion, professionalism and a servant heart. To our wider Salvation Army family - thank you for the prayers, encouragement and practical support you are offering behind the scenes. Each role contributes to the hope we bring.
Loving God, protect all affected, strengthen those who serve and guide us in peace and purpose. Amen.

🙏 Our hearts are with all those affected by the tragic events at Bondi Beach. We pray for grieving families, for our wider community, and for our Jewish brothers and sisters during this time of deep sorrow. When words fall short, and we do not know how to respond, let us pray for those who have lost loved ones, for first responders, paramedics, police, and all providing care.

We lift up community leaders to lead with wisdom and compassion at this time.

May love and unity rise stronger than fear, and may peace find its way into every heart. 💙

Today is International Volunteer Day, and I want to celebrate the incredible volunteers who give their time, skills and hearts to make a difference.

Volunteers are at the heart of our mission. Every day, they bring hope, dignity and belonging to people in need, reminding us all that everyone matters.

Here at The Salvation Army, we’re proud to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary impact of volunteers across our movement. Their dedication and compassion inspire us and strengthen our mission.

I’ve shared a short message reflecting on the extraordinary impact of volunteers and the love that compels them to serve.

Please join me in thanking volunteers everywhere for their generosity and commitment. Their service changes lives, and we couldn’t do it without them.
