Last week, our new Chief Secretary, Colonel John Chamness and I, were deeply moved to be part of the unveiling of the Salvo Wall at Lanson Place Parliament Gardens - a beautiful tribute honouring the ministry that once operated within these walls during The Salvation Armyâs ownership. Featuring historic images and the return of the original brass plaque, it is a meaningful reminder of the faithful service that took place here.
This moment also marked how far a simple coffee and conversation in July 2023 has come. Only 16 months later, our former printing works at 502 Albert Street, first built in 1902, had been thoughtfully transformed into a boutique hotel that honours both its history and our enduring Salvation Army connection.
Throughout the hotel, carefully curated artworks reference the buildingâs printing past, including a stunning glass ceiling inspired by flowing manuscript pages, and Salvation by Brigita Ozolinsis, which translates our motto Soup, Soap, Salvation into binary code. The team at Lanson Place Parliament Gardens describe themselves as connected âforeverâ and we are truly grateful for their ongoing support in so many meaningful ways. Well worth a visit!
