On this day - October 23 - in 1926, the first Modbury Methodist Church (now Modbury Uniting Church) was opened.

These two photos - taken on the day of the opening - are part of our collection. The caption on the back of the second photo says "Opening of Church ... Caught singing"

On this day - October 22 - in 2000, the Newstead Uniting Church (formerly Methodist) in St. Morris closed. They amalgamated with the Beulah Park Clayton Wesley congregation.

This photo is part of our collection. The photographer is unknown. It was taken in 1961, at the congregation's first Harvest Festival service in this building.

On this day - October 21 - in 1860, the Angas Plains Primitive Methodist Church was opened.

We have little about this church, but we know it was up for sale in 1901 (newspaper clipping from 'the Southern Argus' in March of 1901. This was after Methodist Union, so circuits and property started to be consolidated.

On this day - October 16 - in 1851, the Gawler Place Wesleyan Church was closed. This was the second Wesleyan chapel built in the colony. The foundation stone was laid in November 1838, and the church opened on July 7, 1839. The church, having become too small for the growing congregation, was replaced by the Pirie Street Wesleyan Church, and was sold in 1854. After two years as a warehouse, the building was demolished in 1854.

These photos are part of our collection - the first, is a copy of an engraving made by H. C. Jervis in c1842, and the second taken in 2026 by Leanne Davis - the present building on the site.

This is one of the churches featured in the 'Lost Churches of Adelaide' exhibition (https://historicalsociety.unitingchurch.org.au/lost-churches-of-adelaide-then-and-now/) held during the South Australia History Festival in May 2026.

On this day - October 15 - in 1854, the first Mount Torrens Bible Christian Church was opened. This church was replaced by a second, larger church in 1889.

This image comes from a history booklet/order of service prepared for the centenary of the second church. It is part of our collection.
