I came across this today and had to share!
One of the things that we usually do in the month of Muharram is to grieve, weep, beat our chest and congregate to mourn and express grief. We repeatedly say Ya Hussein Ya Mathloum (oppressed). We donate, say: “peace be upon you Ya Aba Abdillah al Hussein and recite ziyarat. Everyone gets rewarded for all these deeds. But there is something that we tend to forget. Everyone is aware that the uprising of Imam Hussein and his message are to reform the nation of his grandfather, the holy Prophet (Sawa), and tackle corruption and deviation. We all make mistakes that affect us and our faith but the question is did we ever attempt to reform our corrupt self? Did we ever do a self analysis where we addressed our flaws and mistakes? The message of Imam Hussein (as) is to reform society and stop the corruption it was engaged in. O Allah correct all our mistakes and shortcomings for the sake of Muhammad wa ali Muhammad.
