Apostles’ Fast 🙏🏼 1 June - 11 July

The Apostles’ Fast begins on the Monday following the Feast of Pentecost, and honours the Apostles who dedicated their lives to preaching the Gospel of Christ. God gave us His Spirit so that we are never alone during our path of salvation.

Following the example of the early Church, which responded to the gift of the Holy Spirit through fasting and prayer, we use this season to grow in faith, seek God’s guidance, and strengthen our service to others.

During this fast, fish is allowed, although we abstain from meat, eggs and dairy.

Feast of Holy Pentecost ☦️

This Feast is celebrated 50 days after Pascha (Easter), and 10 days after the Feast of the Ascension of Christ.

The Pentecost Feast commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles on the day of Pentecost.

It also celebrates the establishment of the Church through the preaching of the Apostles and the baptism of the thousands who, on that day, believed in the Gospel message of salvation through Jesus Christ.

Pentecost is regarded as the culmination of the revelation of the Holy Trinity.

Wishing you all a blessed Feast of Holy Pentecost. 🙏🏼

We invite you to join us tomorrow for Kneeling Prayers, after the Liturgy. 🙏🏼

After the fifty joyful days following the Resurrection, the Church kneels again for the first time. Throughout the Holy Fifty Days, kneeling is traditionally avoided because the Church lives in the joy and victory of Christ's Resurrection. Standing becomes a sign of resurrection, freedom, and overcoming death.

The Church remembers the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples in the Upper Room (Acts 2). The disciples who were once fearful became bold.

During this prayer, the Church bows and kneels before God in deep humility and thanksgiving for the gift of the Holy Spirit.

📍 The English service will be held at 12pm, in the Cathedral. The Kids service will be held at 11.30am, in the St Pishoy Kamel Church.

Confession 🙏🏽

The Sacrament of Confession is a way in which we are able to experience God in His fullness. It is a path to healing.

During Confession, we acknowledge our sins to God in the presence of our priest, and in doing so, we are reunited with God. After we confess to God, He wipes those sins away and allows us to draw closer to Him and the Church.

“Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.” (Acts‬ ‭3‬:‭19‬) 🙏🏽
