I am praying for all those affected by the devastating flash floods in Nepal and Tibet.

I pray for those who are grieving, and for those who are still waiting for news of their missing loved ones. I pray for the emergency workers in the region, operating in immensely difficult conditions to rescue people and bring relief. I pray too for those who are injured, and for the doctors and nurses working tirelessly to bring healing and rebuild lives.

Into the hands of our loving God, and in the name of Jesus Christ, I place all those who watch, wait and weep. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

🧡 ONE MORE WEEK AT THE WELCOME PLACE

As planned, Benalla’s Winter Night Shelter will finish up for the year on Monday the 31st of August.

Over the coming week, we’ll continue posting the location and details of the shelter each day, so please keep an eye on our page - and please keep sharing our posts so they reach the people who may need them.

While our winter shelter season is drawing to a close, unfortunately the need has not.

People in our community are still experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity, and with the cold and miserable weather we've been having, we're very conscious of what the end of the shelter season means.

For three months, The Welcome Place has opened its doors every single night, providing somewhere warm and safe to sleep, a hot meal, and welcoming faces for people who might otherwise have had nowhere to go.

That simply could not have happened without the extraordinary commitment of our volunteers, host churches, aligned organisations, meal providers, donors, local businesses and everyone else who has supported the shelter throughout winter.

To every single person who cooked a meal, made a bed, stayed overnight, washed linen, donated supplies, opened a venue, gave money, shared a post or helped in any of the countless other ways that keep a service like this running:

Thank you. 🙏🙏🙏

You kept the doors open. You kept people warm. And you showed what a community can do when it looks after its own.

We still have one more week to go - so let's make it count. 🧡

Last week our pascal candle was taken from our church. So, on Sunday we replaced it with a plain white candle to remind us, each time we see it's light, to pray for those in need, and those who have never been empowered or encouraged to ask for the things they require.

May we always be people who live the law of love for our neighbour, whoever they are.

Today we went to the Diocesan Quiet Day in Euroa and what a wonderful contemplative and inspiring day it was. Throughout the day people had the opportunity to spend time outside. The river was a draw. Amazing creation.

Our quaint op shop has such a wonderful online community.
We are so grateful for each and every one of those who engage online and in person.
We are so very thankful for the community volunteers that help keep our doors open.

Proverbs 19:17: "Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done."

We’re so thankful for the amazing friends who follow us and have helped turn this little page into a warm and welcoming online community.

We couldn’t share so many incredible treasures without the love you show by liking, commenting, and sharing our posts.

It warms our heart to be able to share with groups around our community and the wider district.

Biggest thanks to you all. 💚

🧡🙏🧡Thank you to those in our parish that are working with the committee to ensure our guests feel truly welcome.

Thank you to those in our parish that are working with the committee to ensure our guests feel truly welcome.

🧡🙏⛪ A quiet thank you to our local churches.

Every night this winter, churches across Benalla have opened their doors to help make The Welcome Place possible.

They've shared their halls, kitchens, meeting rooms and facilities so that people experiencing homelessness have somewhere warm, safe and welcoming to spend the night.

This entails sharing buildings that have been part of our community for generations, and trusting us to care for them well.

And behind the scenes, it can mean extra work for ministers, church staff, volunteers, and congregation members.

The Welcome Place is a community service that welcomes people of all faiths or none. It exists because people from many different backgrounds choose to work together with one common goal: supporting folks who need a helping hand.

To every church community that has welcomed us this winter - thank you for your generosity, your partnership and your hospitality. We couldn't do it without you. 🧡
