Hi everyone. I'm back 'in the saddle' after a five week break that lasted so well it felt like five months to me. Yay!

Here is the December edition of Crosslight, the magazine of our Vic-Tas Synod.

And guess what? There are lots of articles about Christmas and giving. Go figure!

How is your Christmas planning going?
How are you planning to give this Christmas?
There is so much need in our communities, world and in all of creation and so many ways to give, not all monetary.
Let's discern about this.
And let's not forget The Christmas Bowl.

Or forget that before Christmas, we celebrate the season of Advent, which begins this Sunday.
We look for the One who comes and comes over and over, who is visible in the ordinary experiences of life for those who have the heart to notice.
So please look for the One who comes to bring life and love to all.

Blessings,
Rev. Cynthia Page
Resource Minister, Small Church Network, PNEV

The December edition of Crosslight is out now in print and online. Among the features in this edition are reflections from Uniting Church leaders on the birth of Jesus Christ, a Uniting Vic.Tas initiative helping rough sleepers, the treasure trove of artefacts held by Synod Archives, and how Ringwood Uniting Church continues to live out the ethos of Faithful Giving.

The Presbytery of North Victoria.met at Echuca at the weekend. Had planned to take pics but forgot so have "borrowed" this image from the congregation's home page. We had great input from people and a visit from the Moderator, David Fotheringham. Thank you to all the people from Echuca who made us welcome and comfortable on a hot day - Gereldine

At the heart of discipleship is learning. This is why the first disciples were to follow Jesus—to learn. They learnt by listening (but we know that most learning doesn’t happen from simply listening). They learnt by watching (which has a better success rate—but is still not optimal). They learnt by being involved (which brings an even better result). And then, they learnt by doing, as Jesus sent them out, two by two, “to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal” (Luke 9:2)—to do, for themselves, precisely those things that he had been doing, and they had been observing. ----John Squires

In a time of disruption like the one we are experiencing, we have to ask is God trying to get our attention? Has ours become a church where God is a lovely idea, but is thought powerless to act? What we believe shapes us. What do we deep down, really believe.

Every church should have a baseline of quality that people can rely on. And small churches are no exception.
