A picnic tale...

dried fish and bread
a picnic feast
a teacher to hear
wisdom and grace
not just us
by the lake
people as far as I can see
we listened in awe
words of love and freedom
food anyone ?...
no one moved
dried fish and bread
I murmured
he looked at me
how could I refuse

evening is close by
a chill fills the air
the last chorus of crows

the fire is lit
flames engulfing wood
dancing... embracing... consuming...
fuel giving in love

such is your presence
immersed in you
I can but surrender
all that I am is yours
do with me as you will

We are offered a treasure by the Lord... a pearl that will not tarnish... one that will last forever... one we do not have to skimp and save for... one that we do not have to be a slave for years trying to purchase it... one that is freely available here and now... all we need to do is to ask for it and receive it... life in its fullness in him...

It's NAIDOC week! I start praying from a recognition that Australia's First Peoples are and have always been blessed and gifted and known by God, and that they are also a blessing to all other Australians, if we are willing to receive them. Then I pray for God to bless them even more abundantly. In the first line I've put the traditional owners of my region; you would adapt with the names of your local First Nations groups.

God bless the Whadjuk Noongar people of this region,
the first to receive your blessings in this country,
the first to see your beauty in the land and sky,
the first to hear your voice in sacred stories,
the first to give you praise in sacred places,
the first to know your love,
and to love you in return.
God bless the elders,
keeping culture, language and faith alive.
God bless the children,
growing to take their special place
among the many cultures of today’s Australia.
Bless the First Nations Christians and their pastors,
living the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Give us grace to travel together towards justice and truth,
for the sake of Jesus Christ,
the Saviour of the world. Amen.

💚Will you join us and go green for Green Day?💚

We're asking everyone in the community to wear something green on Tuesday 4 August (or any day during Homelessness Week, from 3 to 9 August) and show your support for local youth who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

From a green headband or socks, through to Kermit or Shrek costumes - the sky's the limit.
