The parable of the prodigal son reveals God’s divine love not as punishment, but as compassionate restoration. The father does not wait to condemn, but runs to embrace—offering gifts that exceed what even obedience might expect. Forgiveness here is not earned; it flows from love that sees beyond failure to the heart’s return.
In the Good Samaritan, compassion again takes center stage. Where law and division would justify passing by, love crosses boundaries. Many see in this figure a reflection of Jesus himself—one who gives freely to the wounded, provides what is needed for healing, and promises to return. It is a picture of compassion without limit, where divine love is not restrained by rules, but expressed in wholehearted care for another.

Easter at East Lake Macquarie Belmont - have a blessed Easter

He is risen!

“In God’s resurrection of Jesus, we witness the most important truth of our world. Darkness will yield to light. That from the tomb of despair, it is life and hope that will emerge victorious. And that there is nothing so broken that it can’t be mended. Even death will lose its sting.” Gershon Nimbalker

We pray you have a blessed Easter Sunday and invite you to join in prayer today, led in a prayer written by Rev Dr Melinda Cousins. . .

Redeeming Creator, make us like the dreamers
Awaken our imaginations
to see hope for the future
Your Kingdom breaking in
with justice, compassion, and truth.

Renewing Spirit, flood us with streams in the desert
Evoke our emotions
to feel the pain of our sisters and brothers
Crying out in lament
for release, freedom, and welcome.

Restoring King, send us out to bring change
Enliven our hands and feet
to sow seeds of justice
Walking together in new paths
of righteousness, blessing and rejoicing.
Amen. . .

Gershon’s quote is taken from his Good Friday reflection - originally shared with our movement in 2024, his reflection helps point us to the deep truths and hope we have in God’s resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday. I don't feel like being
a light for the world
or salt to flavour something

I can't be more than me
just getting by... surviving
taking one step and then another

how could I show someone
this is the best way
try this for a change

barely 'making it' myself
getting through the day is my goal
achieving that is success

some think that is 'being a light'
for even an old flickering candle
brings some light to a dark place

The Presentation...

The old man stood
on the edge of the crowd
no longer nimble as he was
a misstep could mean a fall
his eyes no longer clear
but he saw them
deep within him
a man, a woman, a child

Gingerly he went to them
took the child in his arms
his eyes welled up in tears
his life was now fulfilled
he could go home at last
