FATHERS DAY ❤️

Today, we pause to honour and remember all fathers, grandfathers, and father figures resting peacefully at Bellbrae Cemetery, as well as those held closely in your thoughts.

We know Father’s Day can bring a mix of emotions. Whether you are remembering, grieving, or simply getting through the day, we hope you find comfort in knowing you are not alone.

To everyone visiting the grounds today, and those remembering from afar—we acknowledge the deep, lasting impact of all father figures.

Forever in our hearts. ✨

Magpie Swooping Season is Here!

Our local magpies are getting ready to welcome their new families, which means nesting season has arrived at Bellbrae Cemetery. As a quite rural sanctuary, we are incredibly lucky to share this beautiful space with native wildlife, and it is a wonderful reminder that these magpies are a protected species. While they are simply being devoted parents looking after their nests, we want to ensure all visitors feel safe, and at ease during their time here.

If you are planning a visit over the coming weeks, here are a few quick tips to help you navigate the grounds safely:
• 👒 Cover up: Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, or carry an umbrella for a bit of extra cover.
• 👀 Stay alert: Keep an eye out for nesting sites. If you can, travel in pairs or groups, as magpies are more likely to target individuals.
•🚶 Keep moving: If you enter a swooping zone, walk quickly but calmly. Do not run or panic, as sudden movements can be misinterpreted as aggressive behaviour.
• 🛑 Don't provoke them: Avoid waving your arms or throwing things, as they have excellent memories and will remember the threat.
• 👁️ Protect your eyes: If a magpie does swoop close to you, use your hands or arms to shield your face and eyes.

Following these tips will help us all share the space safely.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW TRUST MEMBER!

We’re thrilled to announce the appointment of Barry Plant as our newest Trust Member.

Barry brings a deep connection to our local community, having raised his family in Jan Juc and spending years teaching in Geelong and the Surf Coast.

Although Barry’s appointment was only recently made official by the Department of Health, he has already jumped right in - participating in our Induction Program, assisting with interments and sales, and rolling up his sleeves at our recent working bees.

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Barry, and if you see him around the cemetery, be sure to say G’day! Here he is (centre) at our recent working bee.

Cool Breezes, Fresh Air, and Community Spirit! 🍃

We were a little nervous looking at the weather forecast for yesterday's working bee, but the rain held off and we ended up with a wonderfully pleasant (if not a bit crisp!) morning. Beanies were definitely the order of the day!

A massive thank you to the incredible crew of volunteers and Trust Members who didn't let the cool weather deter them. You rolled up your sleeves and put in some serious hard work to give the grounds a fantastic winter spruce-up!

There is something incredibly special about coming together, sharing a chat, and working side-by-side to keep our cemetery a beautiful, peaceful sanctuary for everyone.

Want to join our next Working Bee?
If you’d love to get some fresh air, meet some great people, and help support the Bellbrae Cemetery, we would love to have you at our next working bee!

Fee Update: 1st July, 2026

In line with the Department of Health's guidelines, our fees are reviewed annually and adjusted for CPI. While the Trust sets these fees, they're based on a rigorous costing model from the Department of Health.

As a Class B Cemetery, we don't receive government funding, so income from plots and services is crucial for maintaining and preserving our beautiful grounds.

💡 Planning ahead: Burial and ashes plots can be pre-purchased at current rates, while the costs for burials and memorials are charged at the time of use.

You can view the new fees effective from 1st July, 2026 on our website. A copy is also be on display in our on-site shelter.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our Trust Administrator.

Exciting things are happening at Bellbrae Cemetery! 🌿

We are pleased to announce that a new gravesite area is now open and available at Bellbrae Cemetery. Established in 1864, our cemetery has long been a place of local heritage, and this new addition continues our tradition of honouring the natural landscape.

The new area is located in the northern section and has been thoughtfully designed with a curved layout that sits sympathetically within the environment. Staying true to our native floral themes, the new sections are named Correa, Grevillea and Manna Gum.

The expansion will provide approximately 200 lawn graves and 400 headstone-only graves, suitable for traditional burials. We also have some sites designated for ashes only due to proximity to trees and landscaping. This is in addition to our existing variety of garden memorial sites also available for the placement of ashes throughout the cemetery.

Whilst all structural work has been completed, there is still further planting to take place and we expect the grass to be looking even better after more winter rains and spring sunshine.

🎥 Check out the video for a bird's-eye view of this wonderful new area!

Further information on available burial options can be found on our website under ‘Selecting a Gravesite’.

Celebrate Our Volunteers! 🌿

This National Volunteer Week, we want to shine a bright light on the dedicated individuals who pour their hearts into the Bellbrae Cemetery.

Most people might not realise that our cemetery is managed by a Volunteer Trust. These members donate countless hours behind the scenes—managing the essential administration, planning for the future, and working "on the ground" to ensure everything runs smoothly and stays beautiful for our community. It is a labour of love, and we are so grateful for their leadership and commitment.

A Huge Shout-Out to Our Working Bee Team! 🐝
We also want to recognise our incredible team of Working Bee volunteers. Every two months, this hardworking group rolls up their sleeves to give the grounds a "spruce up." From seasonal gardening to special projects, their hands-on efforts help keep the grounds looking pristine.

To all our volunteers: Thank you. Your time, energy, and care make all the difference.

Nature in bloom at Bellbrae. 🌸

The Grevillea in our Callistemon Memorial Garden is putting on a spectacular show right now! These vibrant pink natives are a beautiful, hardy feature of our terraced rock garden, creating a peaceful space for reflection.

Whether you're visiting a loved one or just passing through, we hope these blooms bring a little brightness to your day. 🌿
