Celebrate Our Volunteers! 🌿

This National Volunteer Week, we want to shine a bright light on the dedicated individuals who pour their hearts into the Bellbrae Cemetery.

Most people might not realise that our cemetery is managed by a Volunteer Trust. These members donate countless hours behind the scenes—managing the essential administration, planning for the future, and working "on the ground" to ensure everything runs smoothly and stays beautiful for our community. It is a labour of love, and we are so grateful for their leadership and commitment.

A Huge Shout-Out to Our Working Bee Team! 🐝
We also want to recognise our incredible team of Working Bee volunteers. Every two months, this hardworking group rolls up their sleeves to give the grounds a "spruce up." From seasonal gardening to special projects, their hands-on efforts help keep the grounds looking pristine.

To all our volunteers: Thank you. Your time, energy, and care make all the difference.

Nature in bloom at Bellbrae. 🌸

The Grevillea in our Callistemon Memorial Garden is putting on a spectacular show right now! These vibrant pink natives are a beautiful, hardy feature of our terraced rock garden, creating a peaceful space for reflection.

Whether you're visiting a loved one or just passing through, we hope these blooms bring a little brightness to your day. 🌿

Remembering Mothers Everywhere ✨

Today, we pause to honour and reflect on the dear mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures resting peacefully at Bellbrae Cemetery.

For some, Mother’s Day may bring a mix of emotions, so whether you’re remembering, grieving or simply getting through, we hope you find comfort in knowing others care.

To those visiting today and those remembering from afar, we acknowledge the invaluable impact of all Mums.

Forever in our hearts. ❤️

Sunshine, Spades, and Great Company! ☀️

We couldn’t have asked for a better day on Friday for our working bee. With the sun shining and perfect conditions, a fantastic crew of volunteers and Trust Members rolled up their sleeves to give the grounds a spruce up.

There is something special about the combination of fresh air, hard work, and a good chat that really brings our community together. A massive thank you to everyone who helped w**d, prune, clean, mulch and tackle some special projects - your efforts ensure the cemetery remains a beautiful, peaceful sanctuary for everyone.

LEST WE FORGET

Today, we pause to remember and honour all who have served our nation. Bellbrae is honoured to acknowledge over 100 veterans who have served our nation and are remembered here.

These men and women can be identified in several ways. Many have their service emblem – Army, Navy or Airforce displayed on their grave. Most are identified on our cemetery map by the letters SP (Service Personnel).

We continue to research and update our records, and we warmly welcome any additional information you may have about our veterans.

In accordance with Australian flag protocol, the Australian National Flag at the cemetery will be at half-mast from dawn until noon, at which time the flag will be raised to the peak for the remainder of the day.

They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them.

Memorialisation Policy

To help promote and ensure the safest possible environment for all visitors, we have recently refined the wording in the Bellbrae Cemetery Memorialisation Policy regarding items placed on graves and memorials. The safety requirement remains the same, but we hope the language is now clearer for everyone.

This clarification specifically details items that pose a risk to health or safety. We want to draw your attention to this key section:
"A person must not place any item likely to cause a risk to health or safety on a memorial or place of interment. This includes, but is not limited to ceramic, glass, rust-prone metal objects, alcohol or any other items that are fragile or breakable."

Our Goal: This language helps prevent breakages, sharp debris, and potential hazards that can be caused by fragile or weather-damaged items, making the cemetery safer for everyone.

Action: If you currently have items at your loved one's site that fit this description, we kindly ask you to collect them to comply with this clarified safety guideline.

You can view the full Memorialisation Policy wording on our website.

It is important to be aware that given the cemetery is a public space, accessible 24 hours, the Trust cannot be responsible for any special or valuable items left on graves.

Thank you for helping us maintain our beautiful and safe sanctuary at Bellbrae Cemetery.
