God Isn’t Finished With You

Paul’s circumstances didn’t look like they were going well—he was writing from prison. Yet Philippians is soaked in joy because Paul knew that God was still at work.

The same is true for our church, and it’s true for you. God isn’t finished. The One who began a good work in you will carry it through.

When ‘They’ Becomes ‘We’—and ‘We’ Becomes ‘Me’

It’s easy to say they should reach people, serve or disciple others.

The question comes closer when “they” becomes “we”—and it becomes personal when “we” becomes “me”. Who am I reaching? Where will I serve? Who am I helping to follow Jesus?

The church grows when each of us takes our place in what God is doing.

God Grows People

A growing church isn’t simply a church with more people in the room.

God takes sinners and makes them saints. He grows saints into servants, and He raises servants into leaders. God doesn’t only grow attendance—He grows people.

We often ask God to make the road smooth—and I understand that prayer. But Christian joy doesn’t have to wait for everything to become easy.

Joy grows as we learn to trust that God is still present and still at work, even in the hard places and even in the chains.

It’s easy to grab a Bible verse because it sounds encouraging. But when we lift it away from the people, pain and story that gave it meaning, we can make it say almost anything.

God’s Word deserves more than becoming a slogan. Let’s slow down, listen carefully and hear it in context.
