Have a very Blessed day as we celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Today’s Feast day of the Immaculate Heart of Mary falls on the day after the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus because devotion to these two hearts was promoted together as a means of entering more deeply into the mystery of God’s love.
In 1944, in the midst of World War II, Pope Pius XII dedicated the entire world to the patronage and protection of the Immaculate Heart of Mary—the intention expressed in his decree was "peace among nations, freedom for the Church, the conversion of sinners, the love of purity and the practice of virtue.”
Though it found prominence in the 20th century, devotion to Mary’s Immaculate Heart is not new. Early Christians revered the movements of Mary’s heart in the Gospels—she pondered the events of the nativity in her heart (Lk 2:19); and when she and Joseph presented Jesus in the temple, Simeon prophesied that a sword of
Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus focuses on God’s immense love for humanity, even though it was repulsed, scorned, and crucified. Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary points us towards her love for Jesus and for God as an example.sorrow would pierce her heart (Lk 2:35). Of course, Mary was faithful to Jesus to the end, and the image of her sorrowfully beholding her Son on the cross has always struck a deep chord with the faithful.
Devotion to Mary’s heart was taken up by theologians and saints from many ages, but it was the 17th century French preacher, St. John Eudes, who formalized this devotion into liturgical practice that we observe today. John’s spirituality focused on the love of Jesus and Mary, symbolized in their sacred hearts. He began a feast day for parishes in France to encourage people to honor the heart of Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus; these feast days spread quickly and were taken up around the Church.
On this feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, let us imitate Mary’s heart by sharing her faithfulness to Jesus!
Feast Day Prayer
"YOU ARE NOT ALONE, MY CHILD, AND YOU MUST NOT BE SAD. I will be with you always, and my IMMACULATE HEART will be your Comfort and the Way which will lead you to GOD."
—Our Lady of Fatima
“I WANT MY CHURCH TO…put the Devotion to this IMMACULATE HEART beside the Devotion to My SACRED HEART.”
—Jesus to Saint Lucia
IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY, my Mother, I come to you in childlike prayer. I earnestly desire that all the people of the world may be brought back to the humble knowledge and love of the SACRED HEART of your dear Son, JESUS CHRIST. I pray, dear Mother of my God, that the wonderful beauty and purity of your own Immaculate Heart may so win our souls that we may detest all sin and dedicate our lives to the Honor and Glory of the GOD who created us.
You revealed the Secrets of your own sad Heart at Fatima and begged for Penance, Prayer, and Conversion of the world to GOD. What more can I do than unite my heart to yours in this great yearning? What can I add but the fervent prayer that all the world may listen to your pleading?
I GIVE MY HEART TO YOU, my heavenly Queen, and in confidence I leave to you what is best for me in answer to my prayer for Love and Reparation.
IMMACULATE HEART of the Mother of my GOD, I implore through your powerful intercession, the Conversion of the hearts of men, complete Victory over sin, and the return of the PEACE which you have promised. Amen
MOST SWEET HEART OF MARY,
BE MY SALVATION!
O HOLY HEARTS OF JESUS AND MARY, united in perfect Love, as You look upon us with mercy and caring, we consecrate our hearts, our lives, our family and the whole world to You. We know the beautiful example of Your home in Nazareth was meant to be a model for each of our families. We hope to have, with Your help, the unity and strong, enduring love You gave to one another. May our home be filled with joy.
May sincere affection, patience, tolerance and mutual respect be freely given to all. May our prayers be filled with the needs of others, not just ourselves and may we always be close to Your sacraments.
Bless those who are present, as well as those who are absent, both the living and the dead; may Peace, universal Love and mutual Respect be among all people of all race, creed and social status. And when we are tested, especially in difficulties and sickness, grant us the Christian acceptance of God's holy will.
Heal us body, heart and soul. Let the burning Love of Your Holy Hearts reign in us. Keep our family close to Your divine Hearts; may Your special protection be with us always. Most Adorable Hearts of Jesus and Mary, hear our prayers. AMEN.
BLESSED FOREVER BE THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS AND THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY! PRAISED BE THE GOD OF LOVE WHO UNITED THEM TOGETHER!
