BLAST BLAST is a team of Christians whose mission is to reach young people in the Bankstown region through Scripture classes, and local high schools. Rev.

BLAST was established in 2005 as a result of God moving and stirring the hearts of a small group of local Christians from various churches. The common passion instilled in this group was to reach young people of the Bankstown region, and to see God’s message of hope, joy and salvation reach these young people on their own ‘turf’ (local high schools). Ian Duncum (formerly of Chester Hill Baptist Ch

urch) and James Fong (formerly of Anglican Youthworks) were both instrumental in establishing BLAST and for this we are eternally grateful! Both have had stints as Chairperson of BLAST but we are now blessed to have Ray Vassallo (Senior Minister Yagoona and Condell Park Anglican) take on this vital role. Other BLAST board openings exist (see overleaf). The board currently consists of local Christians passionate about seeing young people won for Christ! Our Christmas BBQs are on again in a few weeks. We would love volunteers to help (must have WWCC clearance):

Are you free on December 7 – 11:30am to 2:30pm to help at Strathfield South High School? Or December 8 – 9:30am to 12:30pm to help at at Bass High School?

If so, let us know! Great way to show love and the true meaning of Christmas to the whole school community at these local schools.

Good to see kids at Sefton High School asking What Life's All About? and using the Bible to help find the answer to that big question.

It was so encouraging to have some great questions asked about the book of Daniel yesterday at Bankstown Senior College. It got us talking about how to engage with people of different beliefs, how to live faithfully in difficult circumstances and reflections on reconciliation when people hurt us.

I had two students steal one of my props in Christian Scripture class today. I asked the other students in the class if they knew who took it. It soon became obvious that it was the usual suspects. The other students didn't narc on the guilty pair, but within minutes they made sure the prop found its way back to me via one of the honest students. Now I am trying to think of what I can teach on next week to illustrate complete and utter forgiveness for these guys. Any suggestions?

Thank you to all those who came and showed support for our Christian Scripture in Schools program the Saturday before last. It was great to have over 90 people in attendance to hear the sharing of good news stories of how locally born students and those from overseas places like Myanmar and Iraq are being blessed by the Christian Scripture program in Bankstown area high schools.

Hi all,

You might recall I posted a few weeks back about SRE in NSW. Well, good news, because an Anglican Youthworks letter has just confirmed that: 'The ban on two authorised resources in our high school SRE curriculum has been lifted.'

Minister for Education Andrew Piccoli MP wrote: "I acknowledge and regret that there was no consultation by the DEC with the Anglican Church prior to the memorandum being issued to Directors Public Schools on 6 May 2015. I'm pleased the Department has now agreed that if similar concerns are raised in the future it will immediately discuss the matter with SRE providers as a first step."

Good news!

Thank you for meeting with me on Friday the 15th May 2015 to discuss the memorandum issued by the Department of Education and Communities (DEC) regarding the appropriateness of certain texts for use in Special Religious Education (SRE).
